He doesn't have the same opinion on scoring than you, so he's ignorant? I mean, I know a lot of people don't care about the amount of goal scored. We want some good hockey, and interference is a part of it.

Many posters on here seems to only watch hockey, not to see their team win, but to see their favorite player get "so many highlights and points" to boast for him, which is why they whine on not enough penalties being called.

Really. Just when I think I can't read anything more ridiculous....

Anyone else notice how Detroit subtly interferes all the time?

Probably a legit point to be made concerning injuries, but I like fast hockey. I like hard nosed physical hockey, and don't mind at all low scoring games if they are played well, but clutching and grabbing is boring and its frustrating to watch what could be great players prevented by such means.

Did any of you watch the clip? I watched it live on cbc hockey night in Canada when they put it up yesterday. He was relating to picks like in the Nba. Where you can block to prevent other players getting a concussion from big hits. He was specifically talking about injuries from the speed. The Cbc panel actually agreed.

I didn't bother with the clip when I realized I had to sit through over a minute of ads. But if that's what he was getting at then that's not so bad.

When I listened the interview last night I was reading it as he wanted to see more interference allowed to help protect players from bad hits, not to decrease scoring.

Some people are hung up on the misquote provided by the OP and Brodeur's statement that playing offense isn't that hard. You're absolutely right though. The entire discussion was about increasing player safety and has absolutely nothing to do with a perceived lack or abundance of scoring.

Holy **** some of your are dense. The guy shares his opinions on what he would change and you have comments like "Wow, what a **** guy. All he does is complain." What the ****? He was asked a question and he answered it with his own thoughts. So much unwarranted hate for something so trivial.

Let alone that it seems that this whole discussion is based on a wide misconception of what he said. Listen to the interview before ragging on the guy for absolutely nothing.

Lol scoring is too easy because you were fortunate to play behind Stevens, Niedermayer, Daneyko and Rafalski your entire career, and when they left you didn't look too good did ya Marty

Didnt he win 48 games (single season record) with out Niedermayer, Stevens, Daneyko and then 45 with out Rafalski on the team?

Oh yea, he did.

The league is always going to allow some interference. Players going at full speed through the neutral zone and getting hit ultimately leads to too many head injuries.

Things are fine as they are right now. I just don't want to go back to the year after the lockout where it was one PP after another. It's the most boring hockey I can remember.

It's such an art with them. They do it every game but it's so subtle and never gets called. They've mastered it.

I don't know how Detroit ****ing gets away with it. Every game against them is so frustrating. The way they get away with interference is one of the reasons why I think they can go far in the playoffs.

Can somebody tell me why visor tint is illegal? I know you can have it tinted for medical reason like David Perron (concussions) but why not everyone?

Since no one answered this. It was during a NJ-WSH game where Brodeur complained about not being able to see Ovechkin's eyes. There was a vote called on this where there was a 29-1 vote to ban tinted visors. Only person to vote against it was George McPhee.

I've had the pleasure of chatting with Brodeur. Very nice guy. I also have endless respect for him as a player. These last few seasons don't tarnish his reputation at all to me.

That said, I couldn't disagree with him more about this comments re: interference. Frankly I think he's out to lunch.

I think everyone knows that, even Selanne called them out on it. I've noticed the Hawks getting away with it a lot too, but nowhere near the Red Wings over the last decade

This is a perfect thing to point to the next time someone says something along the lines of "well, x-person was/is a player in the NHL, so they know what they're talking about".

Interference is allowed way too much as it is.

For example, I watch Voracek get held, interfered with, hooked every single game. Any more and he'd need to get a restraining order.

Ditto with the Sedins for me. Star players get manhandled and messed with so often, people wonder why they break down or slow in their scoring. We need less interference, not more.

Yep. I don't think it can be argued that obstruction is once again on the upswing in the league, and sadly the league seems either unaware or unwilling to change the marching orders to the refs. It disproportionately affects the league's skill players and the game's biggest stars. Last year we had a grand total of one player break 90 points.

"Even Selanne"? Yeah, because he isn't one of the biggest whiners the NHL has seen in the last 2 decades.

Every single team in the current NHL interferes a lot.

Entertainment-wise the league would like a faster game. Liability-wise, they can't afford to have too many brutal open ice collisions. Concussions are bad for players, bad PR for the league and ultimately a potential lawsuit down the road. So the league is going to find a balance between the two, which is pretty much where we are today.

What the league really needs are larger ice surfaces but that's never going to happen.
