Good news. Scoring rate will go down now that Brodeur finally retired.

I get what he is saying. If someone would have been running interference with his wife he wouldn't have gotten caught with the nanny.

Brodeur never says "scoring is too easy" at any point in the video; BlackGoldGreen is lying. Here's a rundown of what is actually said:

  • The game is too fast which in turn makes it more dangerous.
  • Doesn't have an answer to fix it.
  • Suggests getting rid of the trapezoid and allowing more interference might help.
  • Playing offense isn't that hard anymore because defense can't touch anyone.
  • Players should be able to interfere with someone a little bit when one of their teammates is being lined up for a hit.
  • Picks Crosby as the player to build his team around.
  • Picks Price as the goalie to build his team around.

I have a dream that one day every Brodeur related thread won't turn into "lol Marty's overrated, Hasek and Roy are better." That is getting really boring.

Did any of you watch the clip? I watched it live on cbc hockey night in Canada when they put it up yesterday. He was relating to picks like in the Nba. Where you can block to prevent other players getting a concussion from big hits. He was specifically talking about injuries from the speed. The Cbc panel actually agreed.

Brodeur is making commentary on the speed of the game causing injuries but I think its an issue that has already tried to be addressed and then fell by the way side.

The NHL being serious about head hits being penalties would also cause a reduction in injuries. "As long as his elbow makes contact with a guys chest before his shoulder goes right through his face" or "it grazed off his shoulder before blasting the side of his skull" or "the hitter was so much bigger than him, he HAD to hit the guy in the skull he had no other choice" are all weak excuses why the NHL isn't calling headshots now days. I can't remember a single headshot i've seen called a penalty this year. Interference has been getting called less and less for the last 4-5 years, the only reason I have noticed to be honest are the blues started transitioning into a speed team and I can see guys just body blocking lanes in the most obnoxious ways when we chip it in.

Thanks for actually bringing some common sense and facts to this thread.

Why is everyone mad at him ? He's right about the concussions and the trapezoid. Allowing more interference is not the best option to solve the head injuries problem, but it's his opinion.

He has played in the NHL for 20 years, you bunch of know it alls think you know the game better than him.

Maybe because the OP talked out of his behind and made Marty say things what he didn't actually say. Anyways I got to make a nanny joke so I'm happy even though I also fell to the OP's trap. :)

His career was a result of the trap and "clutch and grab" era.............don`t get me wrong........I salute his career .......but it is what it is...........

I'm actually ok with pick plays. International hockey allows it. Basketball allows it. The key is for the pick to be stationary. I see no problem with that.

What's your excuse?
In my opinion this is the worst aspect of officiating in the NHL.

Especially on dump ins, the defender seems to have free reign to hit a guy after the puck is long gone.

After watching the last couple of weeks, it seems the nhl went back to the 1990's-2003 rule book. Grabbing, interference, holding, cross checking all seem to be allowed again.

This comment was old and inaccurate in 2008. But somehow, 7 years later it is still made.

especially the last 2-3 years

Im not sure anybody who makes these comments anymore has actually watched a Wings game over the past 2-3 seasons.

they arent skilled enough on the back end to get away with it anymore.
