Washington says, Eller, Muggli, 25 first for Nelson.
Could be #32 this year and the vibes of 2025 is it is a mediocre draft depth year.

Cristall and Eller for salary purposes for Nelson at $3,000,000, and a 3rd?

Are there some examples of close-to-ready prospects acquired in deadline deals who actually became good pros?
Giroux for Tippett comes to mind a few years back

There's never a bidding war and no one ever returns a 1st and an A prospect. Nelson will return exactly what every other top 6 rental has ever returned in the history of the cap era, exactly one first round pick (top 10 protected) + a 3rd in a future draft year + a team's 7th-10th best prospect.
Agree with this.

It’s going to be picks. The more the plentiful. No team is giving you a prized prospect for someone who has his heart set on going home and the prospect they will give you is one they have plenty of video on and clearly see flaws. If someone gives us 3 picks in the top 100 of the draft and he’s yours.

My bad... I thought he was 30

OK, completely ignore that offer

I was interested if he came from age 30-35 but he is age 33. Doesn't fit the Habs timeline

The Hertl and Lindholm trades are probably the lower and upper ends of the value for Nelson.

Basically
- 1st
- Prospect (or prospects) equivalent to a 1st round or 2nd round value
- Mid pick
- Roster player for cap purposes

You have 2 firsts, 3 seconds, 3 thirds. Give us 2 seconds and a third and he’s yours. And then he goes to Minnesota in the summer. Between the Capitals, Devils, Hurricanes, Lightning we might be abled to get 3 picks in the top 64

Something to ponder but I was more interested in using futures that got us a piece for 5 years. A pure rental? I think someone else beats the two 2nd's and a third. I'm fairly confident you will get a 25-32 range 1st from a contender.

I can see Hughes looking for a stop gap if Evans gives us fits but I really don't know if we are able to come to terms with Evans or not. We will see. Someone like Gourde might be another solution (stop gap). I think we can get him cheaper and also get him to extend for 2 years. I'm not a fan of the 35+ contracts.

Habs may use some of our futures to improve the team now but I feel we are looking for 5+ year solutions. If that is not possible, I think we are going to try very hard to trade down with all the picks we got and try to hit on a grade A prospect. We already have loads of B and B+ types.

EDIT: For about this idea. He's 5 years older than Evans. I thought he was 2 years older and age 30. My bad and I apologize

I doubt many other Habs fans would do this but I have been looking for a stop gap if Evans gives us contract fits. I was looking at Gourde earlier and also ROR. However, I have been pondering about Nelson.

* Nelson is 2 years older than Evans
* Nelson basically gets paid $4M (+/-) vs what Evans will get. Worth it though
* My concern would be term. I would prefer 5 years taking him to age 35.

This would be my offer for Nelson:
* Flames 1st. Probably the best 1st offered from any other team (12-18 range)
* One of the Habs 2nd rounders.
* Prospect like Mesar... disappointing development but still has time
* Maybe a 4th rounder added.
* Conditions on getting an extension for Nelson (5x $7.5M)
* Habs take on the full contract. Maybe $1M-$2M retention max. No contract dump.

Habs can then flip Evans for the best return we can get. Nelson replaces him and we get an upgrade.

What do you think about the offer above?
I don’t think Nelson will waive to go to MTL let alone extend but who knows. He’s got a rather large family and the international move could be a bit of a headache

I was even including the Horvat deal of a 1st, decent prospect and roster player as another option for the trade structure. The roster player however would have to be an expiring deal instead of one with term like Beauvillier was at the time.

I feel a late 1st (25-32 range) and a B prospect is the base. Then it comes down to how many teams are in on him and how aggressive they get

I want Miroshnichenko personally. Mainly to hear Butchie pronounce his name.

No Cristall or Miro from Caps for a rental thats pacing 50 pts.

Id rather spend elsewhere but as Caps are reported to be kicking these tires ill unhappily caugh up 1st + Milano. Maybe Alexeeyev.
