Not a fan of either, but I'll try.

Kotkaniemi
Roslovic
2025 1st
J. Blake
Three current roster players and a first?!? Show me any trade deadline trade that brought that. A first and a good prospect and maybe something else is the usual for a UFA of Brock’s caliber at the deadline. Probably should look at Lindholm’s return last year as a guideline.

Roslovic is nothing meaningful in a trade, positive or negative. Generic player with an expiring contract at a modest cap hit. That's salary retention in a different form.

Carolina going the major rental route again is a bit dubious to me. It's not even about internal philosophy in this case. Top teams around the league generally don't take a big shot year after year like that.

An extension is a probably part of the conversation and whatever value bump you want to argue comes with that.

EDIT: Not directed at anyone in particular.

Islanders need to move out most folks there.

Barrel, Horvat, Dobson, Pulock, Sorokin should be keepers

The rest, use to make a hard press for a rebuild.

Retain on Lee, but get the rebuild under way ASAP

Yes, but I'd switch Pulock for Romanov in the keeper section.

Horrible idea. Back to the drawing board.

Such constructive criticism. You act like I suggest putting Matt Martin at Center.

"Something else" would prob be a replacement level roster player to balance salary. Beauvillier was that guy in the Horvat trade, who knows who it could be in a potential Nelson trade but they'd figure it out. I don't think Isles get a Raty level prospect in a Nelson trade, maybe a tier below, but who knows. Nelson has been very consistent, averaging around 35 goals the last few years, and he's solid in the playoffs too.

I can't see Kotkaniemi being involved here at all. If they drop Nelson they're not taking on a six year contract, cap and roster flexibility is more valuable.

I figured Nelson would re-sign tbh.

Tampa could use Palmieri maybe have him half retained at the TDL and they send back Sheary and 2 2nds, not that Palmieri is worth 2 2nds but Sheary being a cap dump has an extra year, the isles can replace Palmieri with Sheary which is a downgrade and in return get 2 2nds which they normally would not get for him at this stage in his career, and the Lightning can bolster their top 6 and maybe even re-sign him to a team friendly deal, also the Lightning imo have the best shot in the east to win the cup especially if they add a top 6 forward.

Except Canes don't re-sign guys at 34 years old (which he'll be on his next contract) unless they are bargain/short term deals. Someone else will offer him more IMO.

Orlov? Sorry, he was a UFA.

Why can't the Hurricanes sign him to a similar deal to Orlov?

Need, chance for a Cup?

Someone may offer more, but he gets the choice where he goes(NTC). I'd guess he'd be ok going to Carolina.

A few reasons:
1. It's not a matter of what they "can" do, it's a matter of what they will do. It's not in their nature.
2. Orlov was 31, Nelson will be 34.
3. Orlov was viewed as a stopgap until Nikishin arrived

Need, chance for a Cup?
Only 1 team ever wins that bet.

it's a guess.

point being, if Carolina trades for him it's as a pure rental. IMO, there's no added value to assume he'll re-sign.

Knowing Lou, he will be signed for 6-8 year extension.

Nelson has been the most consistent scorer for the isles for a while. Hes one of the most solid 2nd line centers you’ll find. 2way player. Good for 30+ goals and has lots of playoff experience.

If we’re not in position and become sellers Nelson is our most valuable deadline asset.

If also look to move Palmieri and Lee too. Lee would have to be retained and probably only fetch a mid pick but I could see a playoff team wanting to load up and getting a guy like Lee for a run.

Those are deadline type moves.

Bump this back up. Isles are decimated with injuries, beforehand were playing horrible. This team now needs to truly move their vets and reboot.

Nelson and Parm need to go in separate deals.

Nelson definitely should net us a 1st and a good spect or younger player from a contending team.

Parms is playing good, best player on our team this year by far. Continuing from last year where he scored 30 goals. I think he can get either 2 youngster or a 1st and a "B" rated prospect.

Pelech, would eat a lot of his salary if we could get something back for him (player wise)

Cizikas - Think he would get more juiced if he was playing for a contender. Still had decent speed and hustle all the time.

I'll hang out to Lee and Pageau for another year. Since very one thinks their both negative value. I'm not willing to attached picks to get rid of them.

Pelech. Based on history, teams rarely retain that much of a contract. Most term for 50% was recently Hayes for 3 years whom Phi seemed really intent on getting rid of. RyJo retained for half for 2 years.
About 1/3 for the 3 years left in Burns.

Pelech has 4 more seasons after this one.

So don’t expect the isles to set a new bar on term for retention.

Would love for the devils to snag Nelson to play with Hughes and Bratt. Devils definitely couldnt afford the prices being thrown around in this thread though. They traded toffoli last season at the deadline for a second and a third rounder, most I could see the devils spending at a deadline rental for Nelson would be two 2nd round picks for this seasons draft and Nolan Foote.

Either of them would get what good but not great rental forwards always get -- one first round pick, a team's 8th to 12th best prospect, and some expiring salary filler to balance out the deal.

Would love to see one on the Caps ...

Yea that’s understandable but I do think the Isles should be able to get a first so Idk if that’d work out. Unless you add one of your better prospects, but idk who’s that be

I would probably do a first this season for Nelson if the devils had it and happened to be in a position to contend, but it went in the summer in the markstrom trade.

Have 3 second rounders for this season so I would expect they’ll move a couple of them at the deadline. Only prospects that would raise interest in a trade are Casey, Nemec and silayev who are all untouchable as promising blue liners.

Another name is Gritsyuk who is playing in the KHL and doing well with Demidov on SKA leading them in scoring. But he’s also a 23 and finishing his contract in the KHL this season and then will make his way to North America. He could be very valuable to the devils as a mostly finished product prospect who can be playing for a year on an entry level deal next season. So that’s also pretty valuable to the devils and hard to give up for a rental. Mostly just wishing for Nelson to be able to play along Hughes and bratt, but I don’t think it’s realistic unless Nelson is very unhappy and Lou wants to do him a solid.
