All these coaches have flaws, and strong points. Great coaches end up with shit teams and vice-versa. This is a core of good players IMO, but they need to hear different things to get there. Rod has taught them all he could by now. No knock on Rod. He's just at the end of his CAR life.
I think DW needs to go under the microscope a bit. I'm still convinced he thought Montreal would match the Kotkiniemi offer sheet. I'm curious how much was known about this year's AHL situation before it unfolded.

yep, worst mistake we made was thinking we were the smartest guy in the room as far as Tro goes. IIRC it wasn't even money, it was the term that we weren't willing to give him. We shelled out for KK to extend instead and he has not worked out at all in that regard. He's not a bad player but he's a #3 and that's all he'll ever top out as, at least here.

It's possible that Kuzy, working with our staff in the off-season, recommits himself physically and bounces back to be the #2 we need next season. But that's going to be too late. Pesce's gone, Skjei is about to get PAID by not us, and Nikishin is still another full season away, those are two MASSIVE holes that I don't know how we're going to fill shy of Columbus being drunk as f*** and filling one of them for us in a Provorov for KK trade. The only other option there is Jarvis or Necas, either of which we need to try.

We're going to have a couple of mid seasons before the next window opens. Playoffs, almost certainly (because this division sucks) but not contenders to the same extent we have been the last 4 years.
Tro was never going to extend with us because our coaches f***ed around with how he was utilized here. 3rd and 4th line minutes in games where it mattered really pissed him off

So yeah it's fitting to see him center a top 6 line that is kicking our ass in the playoffs again. We deserve it

Brindy isn't a genius, he needs to learn that it's ok to adjust your style. He has to in order to survive in this league. He will extend with us this summer but without some legitimate playoff success this is his last contract with us

In fairness to rod Tro never played like he was better than staal or aho. He didn’t earn 2nd line 5v5 minutes while here.

Edit: he was typically a detriment in the playoffs too. Even the year he scored, he was taking dumb penalties or making boneheaded plays that ended in the back of the net.

Are we happy with making the playoffs or do we really want to compete?

This offseason will tell us a lot.
Ownership is happy making money with our very forgiving fanbase. In some ways, it makes the coach even more valuable due to the loyalty effect. He's, in a way, a very effective marketing asset regardless of the results. Sorry, I am a bit of a cynic on this front.

Why do you think they curate parasocial attachment so much in their social?

I just went back and watched a few plays from were I had taken the dog out during the game.

Just what little I rewatched, at least 3 times TT or Jarvis set up Staal with grade A wide open chances. The Rangers are just letting him walk down the middle uncontested and doubling Jarvis. Shot right in the goalies chest. If I were a betting man, I’d put money on KK or Kutzy to finish at least one of those chances.

The lines need to change for next game, but they won’t. They need a real second line. I truly believe the players are there, they’ve just got to be put together.

Yep. Pretty much. Just hit the better team earlier.

That’s why I’m not jumping on the doom and gloom train. This isn’t an underachievement. This is what happens in the playoffs. Two very good teams meet, one wins, one loses.

It sucks that we end up on the losing side of these games, but we know the main reason why it’s happening. The Rangers special teams are giving them the edge they need to win these close games.

Does it fall on the coach that our PP is 0-for? Maybe? But at the end of the day, he’s not the one on the ice. It’s up to the players to execute, and they simply haven’t.

I think they’re just a better team. Their special teams are beating ours and we lack whatever it takes to overcome that.

It really is as simple as this. Ironically our kill was great tonight except they gave up a shorty. It's just a comedy of errors out there.

Good hard hit taking out a key Avs player.
Burns hasn’t hit anyone with this force in the playoffs but don’t worry he will never rest & stay healthy for his consecutive game streak next year.

Are you drawing lines from points that don’t make sense? How often do we throw these big hits? The ironman streak doesn’t count in the playoffs. What does this have to do with next season?

Special teams + goal tending + their stars > Canes

Nope burns doesn’t hit and he needs to.

Playoff hockey is a tough and often mean process. you need your big guys to punish. Burns floats.

that doesn’t even make sense how this is a Burns issue. Then you add in Benn is a forward and the correlation here is all jacked up.

FLORIDA ALL OVER AGAIN, JUST A ROUND EARLIER.

That’s how I view the series. We’re playing a powerhouse opponent. The margins are razor thin. Shesterkin has been lights-out while we pile on shots. Special teams has let us down. We can’t win in OT.

Same story, different year. I’m not even mad about it, just sad to see this cohort of players keep running up against the same ceiling year after year. There are quite a number of guys on this team, yes including Rod, who deserve a lot better than the hand they’ve been dealt with playoff exits.
