Ok. There is a way that could change a lot and create a turning point of his career now!. If one were to believe the rumors here that JT Miller and others bullied Pettersson into this confidence loss that now made him a worse player.

Challenge miller to a fight (seriously )in the upcoming Sweden - USA four-nation game. I know its not in his playing-style to do so. Yet he has everything to gain/win from that. (Just not get ko'ed- concussion- injured), fight smart, just beeing in the situation is enough, loosing (the fight) will make you a winner. You get a black eye from it, even better. The amount of compassion it would generate.., it will be a Forrest Gump like thing. He would be fighting for the bullied people, he would show that he wont be denied and tries to stand up for himself. If someone that knows him personally is reading here, tip him off about this! (seriously).

Of course, this apply if the rumors are true. If his poor play for like a year now is due to injury, then f*** this

Yeah and then Brady, Matthew, Boldy and Miller take runs at him all game and possibly kill him.

Also what if he does get his ass kicked? Things could end up worse.

Yep there is a risk of injury. He'd have to be smart about it of course. Preferably do it late in the game. Duck the blows from Miller, yet fight . Like I said, I dont know, Im speculating now, like everyone else here. Still if he has been bullied into unrecognizabillity as the former player he was, his career is in jeopardy now, it could be a career changer if he does this, its an opportunity.

Alright, he was injured to start the year.

It's now more than halfway through. Is he still injured? Is this not the second year in a row that a slow start/bad season due to missing training camp? Was Miller's bullying not part of the source of this all? I'm over this after a season and a half of excuses. I'm not demanding his removal from this team for any return or anything like that, but I'm done hoping he will snap back to form.

You haven’t been paying attention… he wasn’t hurt to start the year, he wasn’t able to train properly from his injury last year and lost muscle mass. So he won’t be getting that strength back this season.

I am sure there is other issues too, but that seems to be where it all started.

“I had a good summer, I had to train around my knee injury, but I feel great. I don’t know how exactly to explain it but it’s a nagging injury that doesn’t want to go away easily, but we figured out a way to work around it. I don’t feel any pain in it now or after [the skates], it’s not a big thing, knee is fine.”

“I still feel it (tendinitis) sometimes, but it feels good now — better than where we left off last season. We had to work around it in the off-season training, but, yeah, I feel good and I feel better on the ice. It gave us more time to work on conditioning and work on speed. Everything is fine.”

Quoted from EP coming into this season. He had to "train around the knee" but it doesn't sound like he was concerned about anything regarding his conditioning or the knee itself. Unless he's lying?

You have to have cognizant dishonest to have that full opinion. How many players have you heard ever say yeah I am really worried about my training?

Even still it means you ignore all other evidence. His speed, the fact at one point he was getting better, and any number of other previous signs.

Even some people who don’t want to keep him can still go… yep everything tracks that he had bad offseason training.

So he was lying?

just like any other player in that situation…

Just like a ton of players who claim they are healthy before a game.

Just like many players coming back from surgery and than playing.
Do you think he was lying to the medical staff, trainers, coaches and management about his knee as well? Or do they get the real story? Or do they just have to figure it out when his testing results come back and by watching him at practice? How do you treat someone with an injury when they claim to be "fine"?

I don’t even know what your point is here… no I don’t think he lied to management or to the medical staff… but I do think they have both proven to be completely incompetent when it comes to injuries, and I think there is a ton of evidence for that.

I would also say, they may have disagreed with the off season training he did and that’s why we here about it.

And you think people posting... is doing what now?
Sorry, Im not following. If you are talking about bullies (?) they are usually insecure people projecting their own weaknesses on others. Thats why I suggest for Pettersson to show some classic ressilience/"strenght " on the ice. I think that will make most of them go away and bully someone else. He has already shown that he can be a world class player no matter what, so I dont think it takes much for him to turn this around, like I said, merely a "statement game".

That is of course if this is the reason for his longtime slump. / Regards

My point is....we are expected to take EP at his word when he comes in and say everything is fine with his knee. If that's not the case he, or the team, owes an explanation for his game falling off a cliff. If it's because of his off-season training regiment they haven't said so...only idle speculation by armchair experts, EP himself seems to think he had a great off season.

They owe you nothing…

Hronek last year claimed he was healthy… he wasn’t.

Crosby says his injury isn’t effecting him

Doughty also claims to be good and not be suffering after his rehab.

JT Miller wasn’t hurt at the beginning of the season despite not playing a preseason game…

You're right, I'm not owed anything...but if you want respect from people usually you try to treat them honestly.

Then every team and nhl player does not want your respect.
I wasn't talking about me directly...I was talking about people who report on them and the fans they are speaking to through them. Perhaps they don't care about them either? Or, maybe he wasn't lying and he actually thought he had a great summer and his knee was fine...maybe he's just delusional?

Sure…. Y answer can still be for the royal we.

And sure maybe…or maybe he thought it was the best he could, or that he was superior enough it wouldn’t affect him like it has. Still doesn’t change much… or my original answer.

I responded to the parts I felt worth responding.

What the f*** kind of a conversation were you expecting to come as a result of that last part? :D

An acknowledgement that maybe it isn't solely the fanatical drive to compete (or whatever) and there might be other factors contributing to the romanticizing of professional athlete's work ethics?

Like I dunno how you can dismiss factors like having access to drugs, steroids, healthcare, etc. that most people can only dream of.

Are there folks out there who are completely driven and have monomania when it comes to sports? Sure. Is that representative of the entire pro athlete community? Vladimir Kruton, err, Krutov would say no.

Is it unique to pro athletes? Given that the same mindsets can be applied in many other realms (art, politics, writing, movie-making, etc.) I would say no.

It's really weird that you're dismissive of mental issues being a negative factor but willing to embrace it fully when it is used as a positive. It's an odd disconnect.

We all know he had patellar tendinitis, and we know he “trained around it” in the off season. These are the facts, so to speak. But any player with any injury is going to “train around it” (I.e., rehabilitate it during the off season). Pettersson isn’t this super unique situation. Tons of players have to rehabilitate injuries every off season. You just never hear about it because they usually bounce back.

But, he obviously hasn’t bounced back. So, why not? It could be a number of different causes. It could be the quality of his off season training and this could be because of the injury. However, like I said, lots of players rehabilitate during he off season but don’t struggle like Pettersson had.

We also know that Allvin doesn’t think Pettersson trained well enough (or prepared, or whatever) during the off season. And presumably he has access to information we don’t have (I.e., training camp physical results, direct discussion with Petey, etc.).

So, draw what conclusions you want from that.
