Labrie could potentially be a solid addition. He is one of the few enforcers around the league that actually has the potential to become a regular shift player. I think he could benefit from playing in Ottawa because he could use someone like Chris Neil to teach him how to play the pro game and we have Marc Power who could help him with his skating. If Labrie can get his skating to at least the lvel of Chris Neil, he could end up being a very similar player. He has the hockey smarts and the skill to be a 15-25 point guy at some point.

He also cost much at all in a trade right now and their is also a chance that we could grab him on waivers.

He's learning the pro game. He doesn't have a player like Neil in Tampa to teach him how to translate his style into the NHL. He's lacking in foot speed but Ottawa is likely one of the better organizations to be with to increase speed and skating ability. The main reason to acquire him is based on his potential. He has the hockey skills and smarts to be a regular 4th line contributor. This season you insert him into the lineup against tougher teams and if he progresses well then re-sign him and he takes on a more prominent role the following season.

It is hard to find tough players who can actually play the game. Putting up 35 points in the AHL is pretty good for an enforcer. Labrie has the potential to be a more offensive Shawn Thornton.

Some players are late bloomers. Shawn Thornton didn't become an NHL regular until he was 29.
