Brind'Amour throws Tulsky under the bus for the Rantanen situation: "And the question is, should we have known that before we attempted to sign him?"

Not even a little bit WTF. Did you even follow the string of replies you're quoting? I'm very specifically disputing the notion that you guys flipped Rantanen for an even more lucrative package than what you traded to us. That's literally the entire basis for the post you're quoting. I have no interest in rubbing it in your face, but some posters are letting their cope get a little out of hand.

I agree with everything you said and I am quite aware of it all, having been mired in these discussions with you guys for like over a month now.
You said this trade cost us a season plus of contention. That’s what I’m replying to.

Interesting that Carolina ditches two high profile UFAs in back to back years. Tulsky is taking the heat, but Tom Dundon just got voted as worst NHL owner in the agent poll. Seems a bit unusual for a strong team with a good fanbase, I wonder what he is (or isn't) doing to have such a poor reputation. Perhaps he gets involved where he shouldn't?

Friedman made a statement on the NHL network that I think makes a lot of sense. Rantanen was shocked that he was traded. Good chance that he was so spun that he just couldn't accept it. Moreover, Carolina's style of play didn't really match his skill set. As such, the well was poisoned almost from the beginning.

It's interesting you bring that up, because from the skuttlebutt and bits and pieces Canes fans have heard (and take these with a grain of salt):

1. He was a big reason they lost Guentzel. His desire to "win" the negotiations instead of simply accepting Guentzel's offer (that they would eventually accept anyway) caused them to miss out on him.

2. They learned their lesson with Rantanen, and basically offered him the big money upfront. But Rantanen wasn't interested, so it was a lost cause anyway. And apparently Tulsky was debating whether to keep Rantanen for the playoff run, but Dundon stepped in and said "No, we need to trade him, we can't afford to have him walk if he's not interested in re-signing"

So we take the good with the bad, as far as Dundon goes. Regardless, he's still miles better than Karmanos.

Two questions:

1. How many first round exits do you think Carolina has had under Brind’Amour?

2. What the hell did the Canes do to piss off a Sharks fan so much? Other fanbases, like divisional ones or ones like Montreal, sure, I can see the reasoning behind it. San Jose though? That’s a wild one.

There was a time that many of your fellow fans were insufferable as all f***. Luckily, that has passed. It was during the jerk period. It was inescapable. Y’all jerked way too hard.

To be fair, that’s a rotation of 3 of the 16 Western Conference fanbases that changes every other news cycle.

It was “jerks” with the Canes, LTIR Misfits with the Knights, $10M over Cap Tampa, offsides Avs, VilLAin Kings, McDestiny Oilers, etc. Anaheim can’t chirp the league, but they get mean-compete with Philly. San Jose, Seattle and Utah aren’t able to flex the same, but all three are on the way to greater competitiveness.

A rallying point for one fanbase should have a little “stank” on it…..it’s “repping a block.” 😁

Stars' Mikko Rantanen denies telling Hurricanes he wouldn't sign

Newly acquired Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen says he's pleased with where he landed while denying his former coach's claim that he gave Carolina a list of teams he preferred in a trade, and the Hurricanes weren't on it.
...

"I saw some things were said that I had a list of teams ready when I went (to Carolina), but that's false," Rantanen said. "Obviously, it was a big shock to leave Colorado, but I went (to Carolina) with an open mind and tried my best on the ice."
...

"When I put the jersey on there, I tried my best and just decided just a little bit before the deadline that Carolina would probably get a better return for me if I would do a sign and trade," Rantanen said. "That it would be better for their team rather than me being a rental and going somewhere to play. So that was the decision. I want to make it clear that I was open-minded in Carolina and really thought about staying there."

"Colorado was always where I wanted to stay, but I understand it's business and they made a decision," Rantanen said. "I tried my best in Carolina and I'm here now and I'm so happy to be here, locked in for eight years with a good team and with good coaches. I'm thankful for Dallas to have the trust in me."
Looks like Rantanen is pushing back against Brind'Amour's statement a bit.

Don't even bother responding to Bizz, he gets off on trolling Canes fans for reasons that are far beyond normal people.

:banghead: His own agent said he gave a list of teams he preferred in a trade.

Everyone involved in this trade sucks at communicating and needs to stop talking about it. It's done and over with.

Mikko, when he was traded, we were solely focused on Colorado, so there was no list of any kind. In fact, when he arrived there, I met him in the days following and he was keeping a completely open mind about Carolina," Scott continued. "He felt it out. It just didn't make sense from more of a hockey standpoint, from a style-of-play standpoint.

He gave it a lot of thought. Even at 4 Nations ... after 4 Nations, he had not made up his mind. And, ultimately, he did make up his mind and we helped Carolina out by providing a list of teams at that stage in terms of where he would go.
