I think that’s great but not always hitting the mark. I don’t know that I believe Rod is flexible in changing his tactics. We have a style we play and that’s about it other than lines in blenders at times. Also I question the player development aspect if we’re talking about younger players, he tends to not lean on youth unless he’s left no choice. If we’re talking about developing guys who are already at the level then I’d bet he’s great at that.

Player development yes, prospect development no. We’ve seen guys like Noesen, Chatfield, & Robinson develop into key role players for this team, where previously they were AHL fodders.

It’s easy to share our minor frustrations with Rod here and there, particularly after postseasons and during a difficult period like we’re currently experiencing, but the work he’s done as HC and the way he’s been the spearhead of such an unbelievable cultural and on the ice 180 turn these past 6+ years is nothing short of incredible.

Even if we are living in a worst case scenario where his best times with this hockey club are behind us and the future of this team lies elsewhere (not something I believe is true or I’m suggesting) he’ll be a legend in my eyes forever. Straight up made me proud to be a Hurricanes fan again. To establish us as a juggernaut and not only make the playoffs 6/6 years but to win at least around every year is an unforeseen level of standard setting out of the gates, particularly from a guy who has never been a head coach at any level before.
