Yeah I am basing it off the fact he was undrafted, spent 4 years playing college hockey and the fact he has a good but nothing special ppg down in the AHL. If we are just going to give AHL players who played college hockey shots because of the success of Conacher or Brunner have had this year then I don't know what to say. I highly doubt this guy will accomplish anything for the team and I guarantee will be a marginal player at best. Why not give Luke Adam another shot, he is younger then Flynn and producing about the same. And the difference is that Adam actually has done something in the AHL/NHL before. But I'm not advocating bringing up Adam either, I don't think that anyone down in Rochester is going to come up and help this team win.

You don't believe in callups based upon merit do you? Why do we send the 3rd through 7th round draft picks to the AHL if they have no chance of making it? What do they have to play for? No wonder McNabb is playing so bad down there, someone must've told him that he's not a 1st or 2nd round draft pick, so he has no chance of making the NHL

keeping Grigorenko was the right move, and not necessarily because the guy was ready.
get him with NHL coaches, let him earn everything he's given.

the added bonus of negotiating a new deal when he's 20 and inconsistent instead of 21 and a star doesn't hurt.

In theory that would be correct, but he got 20 games of disarray with a coach who likely paid little attention to his develoment as he was coaching for his jobs, and now hes got a lame duck interim staff who won't be around for camp next year.

He'll have 3 head coaches before hes been in the NHL for a calendar year.

Back on topic for me, I'm excited to see what he has to give. I'm hoping most will give him more than a game before passing judgement. He had a good start to the year, but has tailed off recently, so I'm not sure how that bodes for him.

Not completely true. He's probably working the most with the assistants, who haven't changed. I can't see Ruff dedicating a ton of time to Grigorenko, or Rolston. They've got more important things to do. But Adams, Patrick, and Numminen have time, and that's probably who he's working with... and those guys haven't changed out.

The most important two guys Grigorenko is working with are McKenney and Allaire. And what they do really doesn't have much to do with who the head coach is, unless the Sabres drastically changed what they want their players to do physically since Ruff was fired.

Stop thinking Grigorenko is going down. They are completely changing his skating style as he works with the coach up here. It's the same coach who worked with Tavares. There is NO chance he goes down and interrupts this process.

A more unlikely scenario would be to return Mikhail Grigorenko to junior hockey, although the Sabres are already paying the first year of his entry-level contract. And they are known to want the 18-year-old working with their skating and strength/conditioning coaches as well as taking part in NHL practices.

Edit: Dawn Braid worked with Tavares and she now works with the Sabres.

2. Because Rolston is concerned that Vanek may not be able to play today. If so, he needs a replacement scoring winger.

McCormick is not one and yes, Adam sucks.

This is not a move to give Flynn a chance. Just a possible injury replacement. Flynn is a decent prospect and I am excited that he is going to get his first NHL game. It was a slow February for him (including injury), but he still is tied for the team lead in goals.

He really has been second in line for forward call up since a fantastic October.

To be fair, they had a scoring line winger scratched last game (Foligno). But it's good that they aren't just gonna automatically put him in because of injuries...that's accountability.

Agree. Flynn's also played well enough in Rochester to earn a chance in the NHL. May as well see what the kid can bring to the table, if anything, at this level.

I'm hoping when Foligno gets put back in, the benching will have motivated him to prove himself again and get back to the simple north/south hitting game that made him so effective last year.

A similar thing happened to a guy by the name of Steven Stamkos. Melrose practically buried him and he only had 4 pts in 17 games, before interim coach Rick Tocchet came in. I'm not saying that Grigs will end up being a Stamkos, but him being in the NHL is a good thing because it allows him to slowly develop his game at the top level. He really has nothing left to prove in the QMJHL. Grigs seems mature enough to be able to handle the reduced minutes and slowly develop his game. He'll be a star in this league soon enough.

So today I didn't have bad things to say about him but he didn't stand out too too much but I like Flynn, I saw one Amerks game where he absolutely shined and I have started paying attention to him more now, I hope he stays and prospers.
