I'm totally excited to see Flynn, just like I was excited to see Porter.

Just like I'd be excited to see anyone who is different than the bums that played the first 15 games.

At the very minimum you know guys like Porter and Flynn are gonna give an honest effort every night.

The guy hasn't even played an NHL game yet and he's already going to be Matt Ellis? Are you basing this opinion solely on the fact that he wasn't drafted, same as Ellis? Based on what guys like Damien Brunner and Cory Conacher are doing this year, not to mention what Matt Read and Carl Hagelin have done in the past few years, I'm curious to see what the kid has to offer. He's only a 1 year contract, so it's no harm, no foul really.

Yeah I am basing it off the fact he was undrafted, spent 4 years playing college hockey and the fact he has a good but nothing special ppg down in the AHL. If we are just going to give AHL players who played college hockey shots because of the success of Conacher or Brunner have had this year then I don't know what to say. I highly doubt this guy will accomplish anything for the team and I guarantee will be a marginal player at best. Why not give Luke Adam another shot, he is younger then Flynn and producing about the same. And the difference is that Adam actually has done something in the AHL/NHL before. But I'm not advocating bringing up Adam either, I don't think that anyone down in Rochester is going to come up and help this team win.

Well, ya see, anyone who isn't in the NHL must suck, and therefore be just like Matt Ellis because Matt Ellis really sucks. In this sad delusion Porter is Matt Ellis, Flynn is Matt Ellis, Pysyk is Matt Ellis, Tarnarsky is Matt Ellis, Leggio is Matt Ellis, Girgensons is Matt Ellis, Adam is Matt Ellis ..... You see the pattern right?

Not in the NHL today = suck. Suck = Matt Ellis. Once you agree to this twisted pathetic logic, you'll understand.

Sad. Usually I don't bother with drivel but if you want to be snarky atleast make sense. Mark Pysyk ans Zemgus Girgensons were both 1st round draft picks and 2 of our best prospects. Brian Flynn has never played a NHL game and turns 25 in a few months, but yeah your so right they are juuuust like Matt Ellis  You really need to get over yourself and your elitist attitude I don't know why you always respond to my posts and try to belittle and talk down to me. Your opinion is no better then mine and mine yours. The difference is I don't disrespect other posters the way that you do .

Oh I get it. My bad. If they were 1st rounders they are not Matt Ellis like, but if they were drafted any other round or undrafted they ARE Matt Ellis like.

Got it :thumbu:

I don't see what the problem with this move is.
They may as well see what they have in him at the NHL level since he's up for a new contract this summer.

As for recalling Adam instead, he wouldn't contribute either.
His skating still sucks, he's lackadaisical, he doesn't keep his stick on the ice, and his puck skills have degraded to the point that he looks like a bottom line junior player most of the time.
I wouldn't be surprised/wouldn't care if they didn't qualify him this summer.

This might be because Vanek can't go tomorrow according to one of the WGR guys
Were they just basing that off the fact he didn't practice today? Because Rolston said the only reason he wasn't there today was for a maintenance day.

The guy has 32 points in 45 games down there, after starting the season as the odd man out. He's certainly played like he deserves a look. 4th in team scoring this year (behind Porter, Mancari, and Brennan).

Though I do worry about the Amerks offense...already it is struggling without Porter/Brennan, and now without Flynn...Adam/Varone/Rankin/etc. better get their act together.

I was just thinking today that this guy could be our Conacher.

Or more likely he'll do nothing, but it was funny that I was thinking that today and here he is. Do I have powers?

RW/C .. another scoring option/cover .. it couldn't hurt to give him an NHL try w/ his AHL output + contract situation .. and he's not Ellis nor Conacher.

Now's the time to see if he has any big-league potential. He deserves a cup of coffee at least, and the Sabres desperately need an injection of energy and enthusiasm. Remember how bringing up Foligno last year helped spark other players? It's certainly worth a shot. And, as mentioned above, what do we have to lose?

At this point, expecting anything to be a positive organizationally this season is just asking for disappointment, so just lower your expectations.

He probably won't stay here very long anyways.

Grigs being sent down to join his junior team in the playoffs would give me some respect for Darcy being able to admit he made a mistake. It's for the best if it is the move being made. I think there could even be some time for him to play in the AHL depending on how far his team goes.

I thought it was Grigs stay in NHL or go back to juniors - there could be no AHL involved. Or is it if hes sent back to his juniors team and once their season ends and if Rochesters season is still going, he can then be sent to Rochester to play? Another question - if he stays with the Sabres and their season ends before Rochesters do - can Grigs be sent to Rochester then? or will the Sabres have to wait until his juniors team season is done before he can play for Rochester?

Just to stay on topic - interested in seeing Flynn play in NHL - hope it works out!

Stop thinking Grigorenko is going down. They are completely changing his skating style as he works with the coach up here. It's the same coach who worked with Tavares. There is NO chance he goes down and interrupts this process.

keeping Grigorenko was the right move, and not necessarily because the guy was ready.
get him with NHL coaches, let him earn everything he's given.

the added bonus of negotiating a new deal when he's 20 and inconsistent instead of 21 and a star doesn't hurt.

Seriously why not McCormack or Adam?

My guess:

1. Trade preview

2. Because Rolston is concerned that Vanek may not be able to play today. If so, he needs a replacement scoring winger.

McCormick is not one and yes, Adam sucks.

This is not a move to give Flynn a chance. Just a possible injury replacement. Flynn is a decent prospect and I am excited that he is going to get his first NHL game. It was a slow February for him (including injury), but he still is tied for the team lead in goals.

He really has been second in line for forward call up since a fantastic October.

Do you have a source for this? That's at least somewhat encouraging.
