I tried finding a thread about him but couldn't.

This guy deserves some appreciation. He really comes to play in the playoffs, every year, and fills his role perfectly. He is a great guy in the locker room and in post-game interviews he always looks so focused. Great on the PK, great on the forecheck. Fans give him a lot of ****, but he is all business this time of year. I really hope we can re-sign him to a relatively good contract, but I fear he may go the route of Prust.

I think much of his criticism has stemmed from Torts overusing him in the past. His hands are also laughably bad at times. But what he does he does extremely well. Definitely a playoff performer.

Boyle's criticism stems from people thinking he was a 20 goal scorer in perpetuity. It was the by product of expectations that were beyond Boyle's skill set. It's abundantly clear how well he does all the little things necessary for the Rangers to win. This sounds crazy but I like watching him play. He is a player that does almost everything well such as forechecking, backchecking, defensive play, getting the puck deep, blocking shots, faceoffs etc. etc. all the unsung normally boring stuff that doesn't show on the scoreboard.

He's just not gifted offensively. I can't hold that against him, most players aren't. Conversely, most players don't do all the other things nearly as well either.

I was a big boyle hater last 2 years, not because I hated boyle but because how he was used. I always said he was a 4th liner and thats where he should be, solid on faceoffs and pks....guy is one of the best 4th liners in the league. I read that his agent or whatever approached sather about wanting to work a deal and be back here, clearly nothing was done. I really hope for our sake we resign a valuable guy who wants to be here. I wonder if 3 yrs/6 million gets it done, he will also be 30 in december.

Unfortunately, like Stralman, his performance will result in his departure. They both are getting PAID this summer.

Yup. I was just thinking of the times I would be giving Boyle **** back during 11-12 because Torts insisted he play in every situation. All I ever wanted was for Torts to use him exactly the way AV has. I spent the better part of this year defending him now because of how good he has been since AV played him to his own strengths. He is a key piece to this team's success defensively.

I have been a big critic of Boyle based on the role that Torts forced him into, a role he is clearly not suited for.

I have always said that Boyle, if used correctly is a valuable player.

What I have seen from Boyle this Post Season that I have not seen much of during the Reg. Season is a level of determination and nastiness. And while he has done this with regularity, the willingness and eagerness shown to put himself in front of that PK slap shot is such an amazing quality.

He's played a very smart game, a very stiff game and has been a factor all playoffs long.

Love the way AV has employed his services.

what does everyone think his next contract will be?

My guess?

4 years @ 3 million per season

he will probably get that.

Just don't think the Rangers can fit that number in for a 4th liner.

that's big money for a 4th line forward. Regardless of effectiveness.

I have a feeling a team like Florida goes after him.

His play has been awesome. That 5-on-3 vs the Pens was just masterful PK ability. I would love to see him back but I think he gets paid big time and I can't blame him.

I really hope we sign him. I think he'll want to stay here for a fair price. He's such an important player. He was setup to fail under Torts. He's not a 20+ minute a night guy.

AV has played him exactly as he should have been his career and he is invaluable.

I adore this guy. If he signs a 2-3 year deal, he's my next jersey.

I say give him 4 years. Hendricks and Nystrom just received 4 year deals. Easy comparables for Boyle. Look for a team like Edmonton to open up the coffers. They need size and leadership.
