guess you weren't born when Orr played for the Rangers. Goon is such an overused term these days. Steve Durbano and Jimmy Mann were goons.

Orr was a goon. He had no offensive skill. He had less offensive skill than Rupp (not by much). Someone disagrees with you and they automatically have never seen him play. Do you value your own opinion so much that there's no way someone who has seen him play disagrees with you?

I will seriously riot if Miller gets sent down to the AHL for Boyle. We are supposed to be a cup contending team. I know he's 19, but unless he completely falls off Miller gives us a much better chance to win the cup that Boyle. We have no 3rd line with Boyle as center. It would be a DISGRACEFUL decision to send Miller back. I will go on record as saying that the Rangers will never win a cup with Boyle on the 3rd line, especially as a center. No cup contender should have Boyle as their 3rd line center. Hell, I'm wondering if Boyle should be on the team at all. Right now everyone on the team can skate. Put Boyle in and you have a slug on one of your lines.

I understand your feeling, I am not sure if the Rangers will feel he can sustain this level of play of the rest of the season + playoffs. That's all.

That is probably true. He's a young guy, but IMO Miller not sustaining his play is still better than Boyle. I know he's a 3rd liner, but he's a center. He changes this team from a 2 line team to a 3 line team.

All of this is pretty silly.

From completely ignoring what would be best for Miller's development to declaring that the Rangers could never win a cup with Boyle on the 3rd line.

The fact that the guy ended up in the press box for a while is totally justified and he should stay there until somebody else deserves to take his place. He has not begun the season well at all. That said, I believe Boyler is one of the better defensive centers in the game and can also chip in with about 40 points in a full season. He is incredibly valuable to this organization from a penalty killing, defensive work against the other team's best players, and the occasional offensive hot streak perspective. With the scorers this team possesses, Boyler is NOT expected to chip in consistently, but instead provide secondary offense from time to time. I am not sure what you guys expect from a defensive center who plays against the other team's best offensive players, but up until this season, he has typically produced exactly what I look for. If you are looking for 60 points from Boyle, I believe you want a top six player on the third line. Yes, that would make the New York Rangers unbeatable, but virtually no teams in the league have the luxury of having that kind of player on their third line. And if they do, he is usually a defensive liability or not used against other team's top players the way a checking center should be.

The one piece of his game that MUST improve is in the dot. He needs to win 60% of his faceoffs. It seems like every draw he takes in the defensive zone is lost and causes half of the blocked shots that he or Cally or Danny have to lay down and take damage for.

I watched pretty much every game that Orr played as a Ranger. He is one of the worst skaters i have ever seen play the game. the guy could fight like an animal, but talk about someone who belongs in the AHL.

Orr is probably the most feared player in the league, but he's useless at everything but fighting and scaring the **** out of everyone.

You actually know nothing. Not hyperbole.

Well now i have to eat crow because Asham scored last night...

Asham in his prime was both a better goal scorer and a better skater than Boyle. But in three full seasons at the NHL level Boyle's averaging 12 goals (his 21 goal campaign should offset his 4 goals the season prior). He's probably going to be a 25-30 point player for the foreseeable future.

Asham CAN produce at these levels and has in the past, but until last night I hadn't seen anything particularly stellar about his play. He's been a nonfactor, and his staged fights have brought nothing to the table. With our penalty kill still shaky, I think Boyle's biggest asset (his penalty killing) is worth icing him over a 34 year old fourth liner who only plays at even strength.

At least that was my thinking until last night. The fourth line looked great as a unit and Asham buried one when he had the chance, which is more than Boyle's done with the puck all season. I'll gladly eat crow if the Rangers keep winning.

Even when Boyle put up a 21 goal season he didn't crack 40 points.

Boyle hasn't even hit his prime yet and he already had a 21 goal season. The most Asham ever scored was 15. He is a much better goal scorer and overall player than Asham.

If we're talking now, Orr certainly isn't. When he was on the Rangers, maybe. He's not the same player he once was and he would never make this Rangers squad.

How many games so far this season have been legitimately chippy throughout? Not many. Seems like last season every other game was overtly physical.

If Miller will be a good player he'll be a good player. If the stage was too big for him he wouldn't be playing this well (not saying he's been a superstar, but he's played well for a 3rd line center). I like how Rangers fans are always petrified that we'll stunt a player's development. My favorite example is Malhotra. A) He's a good player and B) He was never going to be a great offensive forward anyway.

Look what Adam Henrique did for the Devils last year. The goal is to win the cup.

Regarding Boyle, what team in recent memory what a cup with 2 4h lines? Any line with Boyle will be a 4th line.

While it doesnt mean I disagree with you with Miller, what you're saying about a teenager's development is complete BS. You're glossing it over in an attempt to aid your argument, but the NHL landscape is littered with young guys who looked like they belonged and then fell hard at the first sign of adversity. You cant gauge anyone's NHL readiness in 3 games, especially a 19 year old.

I could swear that he scored a majority of those 21 goals in a very short time period too. Just a big hot streak.

The 21 goals was a fluke. Graves scored 50 goals once, is he a 50 goal scorer?

Asham scored 15 once, does that make him a 15 goal scorer? And was it a fluke? Other than that he's scored 12 once, 11 once and 10 once.

We need to roll the dice. I'd agree with you, every year before last year. When we were a 6th seed at best that might win 1 round if they get a good matchup, we can afford to be careful with prospects. We are now a cup contender. We have to roll the dice with a guy that at least gives us a chance of a legit 3rd line center. With Boyle you get 2 fourth lines. Seriously, Rangers fans for as long as I can remember have been saying how the Rangers shouldn't bring up their prospects because they'll ruin them. Then they bring up Malhotra, who is a useful player now and was never going to be anything better than what he is now.

The thing is, the Rangers aren't expecting him to score 20 goals again. If he scores 12-15 goals and plays excellent defensive hockey he is well worth his 1.7 million cap hit. It's not like the guy is playing top PP time and 20+ minutes a night and scoring 10 goals a year. He has his faults, but the things he does well are valuable to pretty much any team in the entire league.
