Brian Boyle diagnosed with leukemia

Normally, we would ask that discussion about a former player who is still active in the league be covered in the Around the NHL thread, but given Brian Boyle's popularity when he was here and the nature of this news, we will allow the topic to have its own thread.

That's too bad. He was a very good player for us. Depending--he might not be able to play through the entirety of his treatment. Cancer and its treatment can sap a player of his strength. Anyway best wishes to Brian and hopefully he beats this.

Get well soon, Byron Boy.

Gulitti's article on the league site is saying its highly treatable on top of it having been detected early so that's certainly something.

Here is to wishing Brian, one of my favourite NHLers, a full recovery. I hope he reads all the good wishes sent his way from all the hockey boards.

Thanks, Gusta.

You guys take all the grief for "bad calls" so you deserve credit for a good call.

Knowing Brian, he's going to kick this thing's ass.

Very nice that he's able to play and stay healthy while undergoing treatment. Hopefully the prognosis stays on course for a full recovery.

Hopefully he makes a healthy recovery. I really don't like reading about these types of things, awful stuff, but it can be overcome, so lets hope he does that.

On a side note I went head first at full speed into the boards after I was tripped tonight....lucky to be alive and not paralyzed...life is fleeting...hope boyler makes it thru this.

**** fancer.

My brother was diagnosed with a very similar version (and has been in remission for over a year). Yes, it is HIGHLY treatable, but the treatment is what breaks people down. He will most likely lose a significant amount of muscle mass throughout the course of treatment.

My guess is that they are going to let him play until he CAN'T. I would venture to guess that next training camp, he will be "fine," but will need to go on quite a regiment to regain strength and weight.

If he gets a contract for the 19-20 season, he would likely enter THAT camp in the normal shape you would expect from him.

My two second-hand cents.
Best of luck, buddy!!!

1) There is no blanket cure to cancer like some are implying. You don't seem the grasp the sheer number of people who are involved in cancer research. It's big business, but it's also thousands of people who are all kind human beings, you don't think a massive number of those would have told the world is they could just cure you? Just stop with that nonsense. Right now.
.

Thank you!

Cancer blows. Psychologically, this would destroy me. Good luck to him.
