A lot of people will remember him for how bad he was during his final years, but this guy was a legit defenseman who played a big part in multiple championships. Hope things work out well for him.

Exactly...I know he became something of a joke around here as he aged and had a big contract but the guy would’ve been a legit #1 defender on many if not most teams in his prime. He just happened to line up along a Hall of Famer.

It was inevitable, but Im still sad.

I hope he recovers from injuries enough to enjoy life after hockey pain-free.
A large amount of long term NHL'er live their post hockey lives in pain. It's part of the price they pay. I know ex minor leaguers that are getting joints replaced while still in their 30's.

I always thought that Seabrook was a really, really important part of the hawks when he was younger. Keith got the pub, but Hjalmarsson and Seabrook were great for them.

Fantastic player in his prime, absolutely vital to the cup teams. It’s always a bummer to see good players go out not on their own terms, but forced out due to injury.

Is this the fourth instance of cap circumvention by the Hawks? They honestly should have to forfeit a 1st at this point. The Devils got hit way harder just for the Kovalchuk contract. The Hawks blatantly abused the cap rules to build their mini-dynasty.

The Hawks used the pre-2013 contract rules to their advantage. Not the only team to do so. It just worked out better for them then most. The other stuff came later when they were done winning.

What the Devils did, or Lou specifically, was pushed the envelope. He thought he was more clever than the league, and just had to poke it. If he had just done 13 years like everyone else, nothing happens to NJ. But no, Lou had to be Lou. Blame him.

NJ also ultimately got the 1st back anyway. It was the last pick in the 1st, but, then don't outwardly break the spirit of the rule.

LTIRetirement was inevitable for him after double hip surgery.

He had 3 out of his 4 major joints blown out at the same time. Makes sense why he fell off a cliff nearly overnight after signing that huge contract after the 2015 cup. Up until the last couple seasons, he just grinded it out. For the way he played and the minutes he logged, he missed only 19 games, NINETEEN, from 2006-2019

They haven't circumvented any rules. Every contract was approved by the NHL, as was every placement on LTIR. Why would the NHL punish the team for actions the league itself signed off on?

CHI is getting better at this though

Is there at least a cap recapture penalty for CHI?

How does Seabrook not playing through the end of his contract in 2021-2024 help the Hawks win Cups in 2010, 2013, and 2015....?

No.

Hockey is a violent sport.

Long-term contracts can exceed a player's physical ability to play.

Thats all.
