Waived: Brendan Smith (Update: CLEARED)

A team can't win with two-way players? What kind of hogwash is this (no offense)?

AV does not emphasize two way play. He emphasizes one way play, with the sole way to play is to hit the home run stretch pass and get in off the rush. That's it. There is no thought to defense.
I think the original poster meant a team full of two way players. What this team needs is real top end talent along with some two way players. That's what I got from that post.

you don't sign a player big contract then waive him in the middle of season. this most likely Sather's decision

You do if the player signs the contract, shows up fat as shit and can't keep up, takes weeks to get back into shape, and then plays like garbage (though not entirely his fault). He did himself NO favors after signing his deal. AV makes it worse, but it is what it is.

Oh, and I liked the Smith extension so I have nothing against him.

Top end talent can also play two ways. Look at Toews. Probably not intended that way, but it reminded me of when Bure said that if you want offense, then you cannot play defense. Or something like that. One can have top end talent that does not forget the fact that defense wins championships.

This is shock treatment. We knew full well he wouldn’t be claimed with that contract. This is punishment for showing up the way he has. He’ll be back next summer and better be ready to play.

I really doubt that - it`s not on his table in his current role and position in the org.

- It might be fortunate for us that no one claimed him - he can be a lot better than what he showed us this season.

Smith has cleared waivers and will be assigned to Hartford
So...we can recall him at the trade deadline and he has to clear waivers again , and another team could still claim him ? If he had/has a clause? that prohibits his movement to a certain club...how would that work with waivers ?

Pretty sure that re entry waivers is done . Instead rangers just retain a percentage in a trade

At 2 million there is likely interest . So we don’t think he will just get another shot ?

Yes, I hope so. That is, if he sucks it up and sees this as an opportunity instead of being pissed off about it. I wish him luck.

It's up to him himself how he handles this situation, really.

By the way, I read in the Post that he hasn't shown up at Hartford yet. ?????

Mutual termination would benefit us greatly but is a high risk move for Smith. Do not think he does this. But you never know. He was pissed When They waived him on his Birthday. Good ole Boys club saw to it that nobody picked him up on waivers. Probably not going to 9 Weddings next summer

I was just coming to ask, if he doesn't report can they do a Shipchayev and just forget the contract ever happened? They somehow walked away with no repercussion.

He's been scratched for 10 out of 54 games.
That's shock treatment.
Now that he's been waived, that tells me they're done with his BS IMO

No. I think they are hoping to give him another shot, hoping he'll rebound from this. Demotion to light a fire under his butt.

You really think they're gonna experiment with this head case at over $4M+ a year clip?
I would hope not..
