I mean when you state it like that, sure, it sounds silly. But that ignores the realities of ELCs, RFAs, and QOs. I mean Tony should want to make more than Staal and Smith as well, since he's better than then across the board, but we all know that's not how it works.
I mean, not that hard to even give him a 1 year 1-1.5m contract

I don’t understand what D’Angelo thinks he’s accomplishing right now? He’s going to piss management off if he misses camp, and even if he has a good year I can see them trading him at the deadline, which I think, would be a big mistake for both sides.

Good question. The best thing ADA could do for his future earning potential is be in camp day 1, work hard, and produce. The worst thing he could do is miss time, affecting his season, and allowing others to take his position on the depth chart while pissing off mamagement.

The Rangers are not currently a cup contender and ADA is not unreplacable, holding out gets him no leverage.

A guy that should be the 2nd pairing RD doesn’t want to take less than the guy who will probably be the 3rd pairing RD who’s never played an NHL game, shocker

Cool. He could sit out the season and be in the exact same situation next year with no leverage, a pissed off employer, and several players passing him on the depth chart.

925? Have to give the same contract to ADA then, I guess. Maybe we'll start the year with 6 dmen to save money.

If you don’t believe they’re going to trade away at least one player this season

They will, but it may not be until the deadline, and we don't know what type of injury call ups we will need. The more money we save now, the less we'll need later, but I'm glad Lemmy signed. Now ADA needs to sign and we can get to work.

Precisely.

Weird that he didn't sign the expired QO and got this deal instead.
I wonder what the main factors were for the Rangers increasing the offer? Maybe they appreciated that he came in a month ahead of time to work with Prentiss and get into shape? Who knows. Glad he's done, though.

No ****, so why is everyone mad at a guy using his only sliver of leverage afforded to him?
Eh I've seen more people vocally defending DeAngelo than criticizing him. I think the large chunk of us in the middle just hope he signs for a number that's good for him and for us, and that he doesn't have to miss camp.

But beyond that, people are fans of the team, not always the players, you know? So people are probably more inclined to side with management here.

Assuming ADA signs for 925k also, we will have $760,201 in cap space with Kravtsov up and McKegg and Boo down.
