He's 4th-line caliber. You're technically right.

If Gallagher were a free agent right now, there would be ten teams offering him a contract tomorrow.

The people claiming he is no longer NHL calibre are completely and totally out to lunch. It's an absolutely moronic take, and there are people here have been saying it over and over again.

Gallagher ranks 160th out of 552 forwards in the NHL this season for goals, and my opinion, that he's an NHL calibre forward, is idiotic?

Is that really what you're suggesting here?

Are you serious with this nonsense?

Check that... He ranks 142nd out 552 forwards in the NHL in goals, but my opinion that he is obviously an NHL calibre forward is "idiotic."

All 141 of the forwards ranked ahead of him have more ice time than he does as well, so he is not milking offensive production out of getting opportunities he wouldn't get on a better club.

This is a very clever take by you.

I tend to disagree. For me, he would be in the same pool as Tanner Pearson. Vet, who had to go on a PTO and barely signed a league-minimum contract.

You can certainly entitled to your opinion.

Tanner Pearson had to earn his way onto a roster after scoring six goals, total, in his previous two seasons.

Brendan Gallagher is at 28 and counting... I see an enormous difference there.

Let's face it... if Gallagher were making 2 million dollars per season he'd be a fan favourite.
His contract was based on his previous years of work where he was underpaid.

If he were making 2 million, he would be tolerated.

That contract was always going to be a poison pill and many here were mad at me for suggesting trading him before extending him because him breaking down was the easiest call to make in the entire world.

And he's not making 2 million, he's making 6.5 million.. the day he is done with the Habs, I'll dust off my Subban jersey and have a nice glass of whiskey and salute to that piss baby no longer wearing the Habs jersey.

Not only that but MB was stupid enough to sign a middle loaded contract. Instead of paying more at the beginning of the contract he is paid more in the middle of it which is the most stupid. thing i've seen a GM do

1st year paid 5 million
2nd year paid 6.5 millions
3rd year paid 8 millions
4th year paid 9 milliions
5th year paid 6.5 millions
6th year paid 4 millions

It should have been

1st year paid 9 million
2nd year paid 8 millions
3rd year paid 6.5 millions
4th year paid 6.5 milliions
5th year paid 5 millions
6th year paid 4 millions

If this was his contract he might have been moveable atm to a tanking team specially with the cap raising. Teams with lot of ELC will have a hard time reaching the floor and Gallagher would be paid less than his aav. But no MB had to be fancy and prove everyone wrong by making the opposite of everyone and middle load that contract.

There is definitely a portion of this fanbase here at HFBoards that seem to really struggle with separating a players cap hit from their actual worth on the ice.

I just read someone this morning lamenting how lousy the Canadiens bottom six is, which is really kind of a silly take.

A third line of Brendan Gallagher, Christian Dvorak and Josh Anderson is grossly overpaid, because all of them have contracts where they are paid like Top Six players, but there's no world where that is a terrible third or fourth line. That's a more then adequate bottom six line and clearly in the top half of the league for a bottom six line, but because of their cap hits, there are people here trying to pretend that they are terrible.

I enjoy that Gallagher can piss of our own fans, like he's able to piss off the other team.

He's getting paid 9 million this year, and all you guys can do is eat lemons hahaha.

He's playing well tho the last little bit... maybe not 9 milly...ha... but it ain't my money.
