He came full circle with Gallagher. He had him on a pretty team friendly long term deal prior to the current 6 year deal.Yeah but Bergevin fell into the cardinal sin of paying someone for what they did and not what they are going to do.
Gallagher falling off massively during this contract was the easiest thing to see in the world. He should have been traded when he had value. Hilariously Bergevin, when he's sentimental about a player, gets absolutely hosed in contracts.. but when he's not, he either f***s the situation beyond repair like Subban or got them on good contracts like MaxPac.
This was one where he let his sentimentality for Gallagher overcome the prudent business decision on that contract.
