For me he'll be a top 2 player. The problem for the Habs is how he'll fit in with Desharnais, Plekanec and Gionta given his size. Montreal's trying to get bigger.

People doesn't seems to realize that 28 goals in 61 games is a lot. 29 in 82 games the next year. He is a very good goal scorer. Last year he had injuries problems and the team aside the 1st line was underwhelming. He average 28g per 82 games since he is in the NHL.

And most habs and non habs fans, considers him to be a fringe top-6 forward.

This. Also, he had his crazy 48 goals season which I don't see BGally ever topping.
 
Brendan Gallagher is the first player selected in the fifth round or later in the 2010 NHL entry draft that has made a NHL roster

Good thing is Desharnais won't be around next year and after Gionta's contract ends I could see him not being signed.

He's going to be an UFA and will likely be asking for more money than we are willing to give him. With Pelaknec signed for 3 more years excluding this one we won't be willing to give him another contract. Galchenyuk will be ready to step up for a 2nd line center role next year. Eller could also be someone to consider for that 2nd line spot.

No, Desharnais will still be a RFA this summer. Summer 2014 he becomes a UFA unless they sign him for multiple years.

My mistake, he will still be asking for more money than we are willing to give him, and especially if one or our two promising centers are ready to step up on a 2nd line we won't have any choice to trade him.
 
He reminds me of a slightly smaller version of Brad Marchand. He's not the biggest guy but has a lot of skills, likes to hit everything in site and likes going to the dirty areas. Been very impressed by him. I loved the play in the first period where he tried to hit Slater but bounced off him and fell down, but came back on the same shift a few seconds later and tried hitting him again, this time with a better result. The kid just never gives up. Also that was a beautiful top corner wrist shot on his goal.

I doubt he'll ask for that much. Pacioretty got 4.5 mil and Desharnais is clearly not as good as him. Probably in the 2.5-3 mil range because the salary cap is going down.

Depends on how he performs the rest of the season too.
 
He reminds me of Brad Marchand for him intensity, aggressive play, and he reminds me of Ryan Callahan for his work ethic and his leadership qualities. Gallagher just needs to add a bit more bulk to his frame, and he should be good. I see him as a 2nd line winger, capable of putting up 25-30 goals, and 55 points.

Size hasn't been an issue for Marchand, or guys like Tyler Ennis or Brian Gionta, so as long as Gallagher gets stronger and bulks up, I don't see his size really being a factor in shaping what kind of player he will be.
 
I would undoubtedly use Desharnais as an asset at the Trade Deadline. Had a great season last year on a team that finished last in the east. I think he showed us his career output last year, not his average makes more sense to get something else. Habs have C depth need a top 6 winger. Make a package around him for prospects or draft picks.

Gallagher has always had the skill, people questioned his size and strength....Could easily be 3rd line scoring depth.

Exactly, this is what I said weeks ago but there were a few dudes who thought he was the next best thing. I wouldnt wait until the trade deadline though.

If Desharnais doesn't turn his game around and show last season wasn't an anomaly his value will be incredibly low.

With Gallaghers shot he could be a top 6 winger, with Galchenyuk he could be lethal.
 
Gotta bump this thread as Gallagher is really opening some eyes around the league. This guy just plays so fearless and is becoming a fan favorite in Montreal for his play. He's 3rd in rookie scoring but is also a +12! Hopefully this style of play won't lead to too many injuries, but they're bound to happen.
 
I've heard the Gionta comparisons for some time now and they're not too far off. Whether or not he can reach that level remains to be seen, but for what it's worth at this moment, Gallagher has looked very good showing some timely scoring and great tenacity, both on the forecheck and on the puck. His pugilistic tendencies are nice for getting under the skin of his opponents.

As someone mentioned above, Gionta is pretty underrated on the boards, which is completely true. Much like Gionta, I could see Gallagher wearing an A in the future if it all keeps working out well for him. A hard worker, seems to be coachable and well liked. He's been a really welcome addition for the Habs.
 
How good is this kid, I love players that play with this determination, the epitome of a work horse and non stop engine, this guy will score a couple huge goals in his career
 
My wife knows nothing about hockey, she was watching with me yesterday the game against the Bruins, and asked me who's that awesome little pest?

He honors the number he's wearing :)

Mostly because his shots a muffin, I dont see him beating many NHL goaltenders. However he has a nose for the net and is tenacious around the puck, hopefully I am proven wrong he seems like a really good guy with a great attitude.

The Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher line has just been awesome. Gally also has more icetime than at the beginning of the season. He had 11 mins per game, now he has 15 mins.

He is on a better scoring pace in the last 5 games than Conacher and Huberdeau.

Conacher: 5 GP, 1G, 2A, 0
Huberdeau: 5 GP, 2G, 0A, -4
Gallagher: 5 GP, 1G, 4A, +5

Gallagher in 10th in the league in +/-.
