Player Discussion Brendan Gallagher suspended 5 games

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Hope they use Gallagher next season in top 6 role. Not a defensive role. They guy is 2 time 36 goal scorer. Be a waste of talent.
It's total waste indeed, if Danault is signed, Gally will be stapled to him. Danault will play too much or Gally will be in a defensive role...

depends who's the other winger on that line. Tatar-Danault-Gallagher had Gallagher scoring at a 30 goal pace for the 3 seasons they were together.

I do hope we add a player with some offense to replace Tatar. Caufield has already replaced Drouin.

We don't need replacements, we need improvements.
Caufield is one, but we need more. We also have to upgrade puck movement from the D.

Yes, Danault, an improvement on Tatar, a puck moving D, and dealing with Seattle are my 4 summer boxes to check.

MB came close to checking all the boxes last offseason. Will be interesting to see what he does this offseason.

Having said that, I'm not expecting him to replace Tatar with an offensive player. I'm expecting him to think we have enough talent amd add more grinders.

Bah, Danault scorer 30 with the corse of Plekanec and Lehkonen. I doubt it was all on Tatar.

When will Gallagher be named captain?
Soon would be nice cause the offseason is getting pretty boring... If Weber is out for the majority of the season they better name someone..

I wonder if that could give him a boost or perhaps hinder his playstyle.
I'll trend towards a slight guts boost, like he didn't have enough of that yet.

I don’t think he needs to bounce back from anything. Last season was similar to his previous seasons.

Hopefully not, then would not get benched

It was his worst season offensively since 2016-17...

Add in the large extension, which reasonably sets an expectation for him to be at/near/above his most productive years, and I'd say it's quite imperative that he "bounce back" from what was certainly a down year for him (even if we can understand the injury impact and his courage I playing through it all)

Gallagher will be named captain once Shea Weber retires. Until that time, the Canadiens will not put a "C" on another jersey.

Gally had somewhat of a decent season...........but his playoffs were awful.
Injuries I would think..........
He is now the highest paid forward on the team now.........hopefully he gets 25 goals, and 25 assists....

Even if Weber is out for the whole year?
I have some doubts...
why name an interim captain if Weber is coming back, they can easily roll 3 A's most of our players have been together for years they know the leaders in the locker room

if Weber retires thats a different story and will see Gally get the C probably at the golf tournament or trainning camp

? not at all. He was on pace for 33 goals and 21 assists for 54 pts on a full season, which would have been a career high in goals and a 2nd best in pts (as 2019-2020 was an "on-pace for 60 pts"

As long as the injury heals well, he will be fine

Plenty of teams have named interim captains when the captain has suffered a long term injury, while plenty of others have rolled 3 As.

Frankly the whole Captain/Assitant is more for the fans then anything. You see guys without a letter talking to the refs all the time, and it doesn't take a letter to be a leader in the locker room.

This.

Contract of Gallagher is bad, but i really like the fact we have this guy on this line up. I think if he can be a leader like Brian Gionta, that would be huge for young players.
Still on pace 30 goals.
I would more like have him at 5 millions, but it's a huge piece on leadership team and at goalscoring.
