Player Discussion Brendan Gallagher: all heart, no hands

I mentioned before the the season started that he won't get 20 goals. You can see it from the end of last year that he just doesn't have it anymore.

If I'm wrong, all the better but I think his better days are way behind him. His contract already sucks real bad and it's only gonna get worse.
The other teams watched the PO and I didn't see any hockey fan impressed by Gallagher.
Not that he was playing bad but the results didn't came. The scoresheet speak louder than the Habs fans memory.

And all the Zuk fans drooling all over him last year, has a bigger and more expensive contract and is absolute garbage. It's more than the individual contracts. Coaching, and GM both suck and all should be fired!
I understand your point and believe me I'm not ecstatic with the Zuk contract either. Panic move by Bergieballs after the KK fiasco.

I don't want to compare him to other players on the roster because there are worse habs than Gally but, none of them are signed to that kind of money.

Take Toffoli for instance, comparable in age and ppg to Gally but we got him for 4.6 mil. a year which is still a lot of money. Why would our clown go and extend Gally to almost 2 mil. more a year and give him a longer term? It doesn't make sense to me.

I'm just looking at it from a bang for the buck point of view, and afaic, there is no way he can ever live up to that contract. His numbers, combined with his age, injuries and tunnel vision, just don't justify a 6 x $6.5 mil. contract. Another horrible extension by, as @ChesterNimitz calls him, the idiot savant.

As far as the bolded part, I'm in a 1000% agreement with you!

Well said , all the stats and the point of view of Gallagher were trending he was on a decline slowly but surely with injuries and getting out of gaz after 15sec into a shift.
Yet our GM still cried on tv when he extended him , id cry too if i gave a 3rd liner (at his age) 6.5m for 6 years

The "heart and soul". I have never heard so much BS in such a short sentence. Lehkonen tries at least as much and is equally wood-handed. He should also be a useless heart and soul guy.

4 goals in his last 37 playoff games
like 3 goals in his last 31 regular season games
always gazzed , doesnt go in front of the net anymore , shoots from board.

He's been pretty terrible overall. He will get his points , but at this money , he's an albatross contract

And people were ripping Tatar apart, but at least he could/can skate and handle the puck.

We are just wondering where is that driving force that was driving the whole Danault line all those years....

He'll be fine once they figure out putting him with Dvorak and Toffoli is the optimal way to use those three players and commit to using that group as a matchup line.

We can manage around that contract, he can be our Dustin Brown light, but we need to rebuild, there's no way around it. The Rangers did it quickly, it only takes a year to flip the switch and this should be it. Trade Chiarot, trade Edmundson, trade Armia and Lehkonen, maybe Perreault if his value is good enough, I'd even consider Toffoli and Petry at this point. It won't happen under MB, but I hope Molson will see the light and give his next GM the chance to start over

It was painful watching Gallagher last night. After 30 seconds into his shift we were playing one man down as Gallagher became essentially stationary through exhaustion. I fear the Gallagher extension will soon make the Alzner signing look like the deal of the century in comparison. The six year extension was pure folly as Gallagher’s stamina will only erode further as he ages.

Our most consistent player the last decade and everyone is giving up on him after a slow stretch, that involved a ton of chances. Should have 2 goals so far. He will get back on pace.
Now, if we can only figure out a way to limit his shifts to 20 seconds.

I don't think it's as bad as people are making out. The guy hustles and leaves it all out there, that is much more tiring then floating around the perimeter of play. For a guy with no stamina he is always engaged in the play.

Engaged in the play? In one sequence during the third period he could not execute his defensive responsibilities and largely became a pillar of salt in our zone. It was almost pitiful to watch. No one can ever questions Gallagher's heart. Only his quickly evaporating stamina. He has become a liability, And the fact that we will have to watch this increasing degradation in effectiveness for six more years is very troubling.

Wow, one play that is troubling.

Since we are going play by play, there was a play the game prior where his line was caught long shift on an icing. Habs lost the draw, back to the point, he drops down and blocks a full slap shot.

If you are already convinced he is declining you will only see what you want to see. I see a guy that is getting scoring chances every night and once he reverts back to his historical shooting percentage will be on pace for his usual 30.

Been posting here long enough, writing of Gally is a specialty of this board. Board will be wrong again.

Gally is physically damaged goods. His best years are behind him. Should "retire" like Weber.

Time to place Gally in a conditioning program which includes cardio-vascular exercises.
