Doesn't matter.

The NBA transferred the Hornets 1.0 records from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Hornets 2.0 who came into the NBA as the Bobcats.

The world did not end when this happened.
nope.... the only reason that occurred is the name change..... OKC still owns the Sonics records even though there hasn't been a Seattle franchise since OKC selected Thunder

Why so much hatred for Mureolo? It was the state of Arizona that canceled the land auction, not him.
Maybe try reading for more than 5 minutes before you post in this thread if that's your take. Anyone who has even remotely kept up with the saga hates Meruelo, even if they thought he was the fastest way to get hockey back. All Meruelo had to do was get a permit that he would have needed anyways and he CHOSE not to.

Going to be a process but hopefully AZ fans get a better owner when the NHL comes back.
Think the expansion talks will take a back seat in AZ for about a decade. Really does suck that Footprint didn't get demolished for a new arena to host both teams, but when the Suns control the revenue, they were not interested in reducing their share to the Coyotes and Sarver didn't have the money to own both clubs. If the original lease for the Suns was 35 years vs 30, it would not have had expired until 2027 so would have been time to overlap to the Sarver ousting. Whether Ishiba could have bought both I don't know....

You're delusional if you think the Coyotes will be back within 5 years, as what the timeline was with Muerelo's agreement.
And you're delusional if you think AM was every going to meet that five year timeline.

And we know he wasn't. Because he didn't.

Literally the very first roadblock he encountered since the Utah news broke, and he immediately folded.

Correct that Phoenix will not be getting a team within 5 years, even if Meruelo waived his rights, simply because expansion teams are not overnight projects and there does not seem to be another team that will be moving soon. But the poster was right that with Meruelo calling it quits the path is now cleared IF somebody else wants to immediately start working on bringing Phoenix an expansion team.

Whether there is in fact another investment group in Phoenix who currently desires to serious chase an expansion team, however, is something of which I am seriously doubtful. Folks are presuming that with Meruelo out of the picture, the wheels will now start immediately spinning to bring hockey back to Phoenix, but if there is such interest it is being kept well hidden.

“Today is truly an historic day for our franchise, our city and our fans as we mark the official return of the Charlotte Hornets,” Hornets owner Michael Jordan said. “Thanks to our fans who were the driving force behind the Hornets name returning. We are thrilled to be able to bring the Hornets name back to the Carolinas.”

The "Bobcats" name was used by the franchise for 10 seasons after joining the NBA as an expansion team in 2004. The organization's re-branding effort, which was first announced last year, brings back the moniker used by the Charlotte Hornets, who joined the NBA in 1988 and later relocated to New Orleans.

As part of the name change process, the Hornets will reclaim the history, records and statistics of the original Hornets: all original Hornets players will now be considered alumni of the current Hornets, opening up opportunities for the franchise to recognize and honor the earlier era of Charlotte basketball."

In the last 36 hours:

Coyotes get the "were" treatment on wikipedia.

Our first captain Keith Tkachuk watches his son Matthew and our last captain OEL win the Cup.

Coyotes legend Jeremy Roenick and "Coyotes legends" Pavel Datsyuk and Shea Weber get elected to the HHOF.

RIP to a beautiful mess of a franchise and to the good times we've had wearing flip flops and shorts to the arena in January.

I disagree on giving the Winnipeg portion of the Jets 1.0/Coyotes records to Jets 2.0. I think that when a team moves or folds, the record book for that team should be ckised and in the case of a move, a new one opened for that "new" team. So, the following would all be separate record books:

Jets 1.0
Coyotes
Thrashers
Jets 2.0

I disagree. If it happened in the same city, that shouldn't just go away because the management moved the team. These players accomplished those feats in that city in front of many of those same fans under the same team name.

Those histories belong to those cities and should be permanently attached to those cities.

How does treating Winnipeg Jets 1.0 and Winnipegs Jets 2.0 as separate record books (free of the time those teams spent as the Coyotes and Thrashers) separate them from Winnipeg?

Montreal has had 3 NHL teams: the Canadiens, the Wanderers, and the Maroons. The records are separate for each. Why not separate records for the two teams in Winnipeg?

Because there’s only one Winnipeg.

Uh, go back to your original post(that I responded to). "Probably get a team quicker than AM". AM had the land auction lined up, and had the rights to the Coyotes. Anyone new would have had to start from scratch. Your claim is just not true, plain and simple.
