It's a shame about Braz. I thought he might be something there in the first half but he really faded and couldn't seem to do anything to stay in the lineup. Maybe this will be the wake up call he needs.

Lauko is a terrific 4th liner. He's young, cheap and is going to be fun to watch opposite Kastelic.

The prospect is a bonus. Former 37th overall pick. Had a big season in the KHL in '23 and wore a letter as a 21 year old, played all year in the NHL but didn't really find his footing as a rookie. I'm surprised people are turning their nose up at a 22 year old, skilled, two-way center prospect.

Why?

The Wild did.

Last season Khusnutdinov (Khoos-noot-dee-nov, kh is pronounced as spanish j) played with Michkov on the 2nd line in Sochi, but they were actually their first line. He didn't look great. He's a very good skater and really a hardworker, good IQ, vision and hands, but his goal scoring is non-existent at the moment. But if he finds chemistry with linemates he can become a solid third line center. At least he has potential for this.

Garbage in / garbage out.
I have never been a Lauko fan, he has no offense to his game.
I would have rather got a 4th round pick and rolled the dice with that pick, instead of more 4th liners / AHL players.
If Marat had any potential upside, the Wild would not be trading him.
I hope I am wrong!

Reading up on Khustnidinov, I was a bit ignorant in my initial thoughts.

They might have someone with a bit of potential there.
They traded one giant slow horrible skater who can maybe score 10 for two speedy guys who bring a lot of energy.

I think neither one will bring offence but they do bring one hell of a forecheck.

Brazeau was never going to bring back a blue chip prospect, so not sure why anyone is griping here. We know what Lauko is and I'd rather see him on the 4th line than Braz (or Brown or . . . you get the idea). If Hoost- we need a nickname for that guy- can turn into something, great! A St. Paul (Cottage Grove actually) friend that follows the Wild closely tells me Hoost has bags of potential and he wasn't happy with the trade at all. So if we get something, great, if not, oh well.

While I like the trade, in retrospect they should have just kept Lauko and Boqvist last offseason, since Boqvist seems to be what Khusnutdinov could end up being. I don't blame them for keeping Brazeau and giving him a shot though.

I can't believe the B's got so much in return for Brazeau. With each passing month his game was getting worse and worse. Maybe the Wild can revive it

His last couple months here I started thinking that we got another Ritchie brother here. Like maybe Braz is the "brother from another mother." He looked pretty much disinterested and confused. Very disappointing. For a young guy like that to shit the bed is worrisome.
On the other hand, I really love this trade. Also loved the Freddy trade too but Don Sweeney DON'T STOP NOW!

So much?

Two guys that have put up 5 goals and 8 assists between them. Both minus players on a good team.

And a 6th round pick! Can't forget the sixth round pick. Whoever they select will have about 3% chance of being as good as Brazeau. In all seriousness, though, that was a nice return for Braz. Many here were talking about taking a 5th rounder for him and being happy about it. To get a solid 4th line guy in Lauko, a player with a ton of potential that might hit, and a draft pick in any round is good business. Yeah, so much might be a bit ott, but relative to the player involved, it's fair.

Wild 24-25 prospect preview Hockey News

Khusnutdinov reads the ice at a high level and skates like the wind, which added an element of speed to the Wild lineup in the bottom six. With his ability to play a sound defensive game or elevate and chip in offensively as a slick playmaker, he can play with just about anyone in the lineup and should be a nice addition to the lineup in the fall.

Wild fan:

When Brazeau is going well (like prior to his last 20 games) what type of line will maximize his game? What types of things is he doing well when he's at his best?

I think you will all like Khus. He was probably the fastest skater on the Wild roster and he's really defensively responsible and doesn't hurt the team even being so young. The question is what will his offensive game morph into?

He seemingly has decent hands, and I'm not sure he has a great shot. As of his current level of play, he didn't really flash offensively but he also played with absolute plugs. It "feels" like when you watch him he should be a better offensive player.

If everything went well, I think he's a player who could be anywhere from like Nico Sturm to Erik Haula. Potentially, you may have the same decision to make with his speed on whether you can unlock more offensive potential from the wing. He's definitely fast enough and defensively responsible enough to play center. Needs work on the FO dot.

He is a winger can't recall him ever playing center but maybe he was just blocked.

2nd line skill but sadly doesn't skate at an NHL level. Worth taking a shot on if you weren't going to keep Lauko and Marat. Not a bruiser but uses his size.

Hes good in front of the net, brazeau is. Big body soft hands, goes there on the powerplay. Thats kind of it i think.

Thank you, well hopefully we can find him a couple of linemates who can play a north and south cycle / point shot game where he can score a bunch from in traffic and take advantage of his size along the boards.

Brazeau will be good net front on a PP other than that there were just flashes here and there but seemed to tire as the season progressed.

In his first game this is what I seemed to notice. I thought he looked like a much different skater at the start of his shifts versus the end. To me, it made me wonder if he has endurance issues. I know he's had sort of a weird route to the NHL. I wonder if he would become a more consistent player if he had better endurance and then would get more out of his skating ability that he does have.
