Player Discussion: Brayden Point - Part 3

He's very sneaky as a goal scorer. There's nothing really patented about his scoring except the slot on the powerplay. Apart from that, he's not a pure sniper. He just beats you with some slick pond hockey moves down low, a backhand in tight, or the occasional shot off the rush. When you think of Stamkos, it was always a wrister on the rush or patented one timer. Point hits 40 and makes you think, how? But he does
And occasionally he just dekes his way up to the blue paint around three guys, makes the goalie fall over himself and puts it top shelf like he’s Jagr junior.

Could win the Lady Byng if he decides not to have his annual fight in the last 5 games.

If Point was Russian he would be a a full time bum like kucherov. I love how Canadian fans talk about how great Point is which is great, but refuse to admit Kucherov is the guy driving the offense and most dominant player in the nhl right now and last season.

I was thinking how Point pretty much never takes any penalties, but still gets himself into fights relatively often, so I decided to look up just how much of his penalties are from fighting. In the regular season since 2019-20 (I ignored the first three years of his career because it fits my narrative better) he has a total of 83 penalty minutes, which includes 7 fighting majors. So in the past six seasons his penalty minutes are approximately 42% fighting majors. What a goon.

Point's an extremely likeable good ole Canadian boy but you can't deny his production vs reputation is a little overrated considering he's stapled next to Kucherov. An 80 point season with the leagues best playmaker is a little underwhelming and they can get in trouble with the lack of size.

Point's obvious strengths shouldn't be ignored. He has a very high percentage of conversions (18.8 on average over 9 years). He gets open well and doesn't take on more than he can handle. He's a very high-quality player and one of the best partners you could imagine for Kucherov.

One thing I've noticed about Point this year is he's a lot slower to take his shots or make a play in general. Always hesitating an extra half second which costs him sometimes.
