the NHLPA probably told Point not to sign before Marner or else it'll hurt his negotiations with Toronto

Kuch may have the same amount of points tonight but Point was driving play and winning all the puck battles.

I did kinda jokingly say during the start of the game that Point would match Richards' playoff point record by the end of game 2 but that doesn't seem that far fetched right now...

That was pretty dominant. Looked like he was trying to prove a... ... ...theory.

You know what? I don't care. I'm gonna say it. That first goal he had last night was shades of Pavel Bure. If the Rocket himself could've done a better job we'd just be debating style points.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he watched a lot of Bure highlights growing up. Even though he’s from Calgary, his favorite team was the Canucks and his favorite player was Markus Naslund.

Point's next contract O/U: 11.5M

Easy, Under. Point is amazing but no way he will sign for 11.5 or higher. He is due after 2 more seasons and they have already said there is a good chance the cap will stay flat for 2 consecutive seasons so unless after his 3rd year, the cap mysteriously skyrockets (highly doubt it in this covid age we all live in) there is no way he will be making that much with Tampa. Now he might be able to pry 11.5 out of another desperate team but I don't see Point leaving Tampa. I'd guess depending on what happens to the cap, Point will sign his next deal in the 9-10 mil range. Hopefully we have space.

Really? I had no idea about that. Oh yeah Point definitely has seen "Best of Bure" if he grew up a Nucks fan. However the only guy I've ever seen try to consciously emulate him was Nail Yakupov right down to wearing #10 and #64 (6+4=10) and he was absolutely horrible at it. Point? He just does it to make a play no differently than a guy like MacKinnon. The only player with THAT level of consistency with stickhandling/deking defenders at warp speed is McDavid and even then I think that's a coached approach for Edmonton's neutral zone breakout.

Point however has proven he can be just as effective as McDavid and Bure when he wants to be. Finding the ability to consistently do that is going to be the trick. But really.... Point doesn't need to and we don't need him to be that player. His IQ alone breaks the game wide open more than his occasional Russian Rocket impression. The reason he is so effective is because he takes those calculated risks so successfully as opposed to a guy like Yakupov who was just "YOLO" on every shift

Point will do just fine being a freaking genius and probably the best impression of 1998 Yzerman the league has ever seen since the real thing 22 years ago

Haven't heard Yakupov's name in a while, thought he was going to be a good player. Had a good rookie year and then he was just terrible.

Haven't heard Yakupov's name in a while, thought he was going to be a good player. Had a good rookie year and then he was just terrible.

He reminds me a lot of Brett Connolly in that both players ended up playing like beaten dogs without an ounce of confidence in their game. As soon as Dallas Eakins got fired Yakupov turned it around and played arguably the best hockey of his career. Dude once benched him for like an entire 3rd period because "I wanted to end his night on a positive note." After Eakins was gone I wanna say Yak had something like 22 points in his last 29 games in his 3rd year? Todd Nelson really did a good job with him. But going into year 4 Yakupov played very well (for him) on McDavid's wing and was pretty close to a PPG average (well he only had like 2 goals at the time though) until a linesman fell on him during a routine face off. Dude missed however many months due to injury and that was all she wrote for his confidence. As soon as he struggled with confidence McLellan just said "f*** it" and gave up.

But I digress on this long-winded story because Yak NEVER had a fraction of the talent necessary to emulate his childhood hero.

Something I've noticed is Point's faceoff numbers have been higher than normal. He has a career winning percentage of 48.7% and was at 51.09% this past season, his career best. But with Stammer out in the playoffs he's been winning at 56.9%. He's taken 60 more draws on the team than Gourde and and 82 more than Cirelli.

Practiced faceoffs at home when he wasn't allowed on the ice. Kids a gamer.

He gets thrown out a lot more now too  He's taken on a more aggressive approach.

Does anybody have a gif or video of the last hit Brayden Point received on the boards in Game 4 prior to him staying on the bench for the remainder of the 3rd period ?

Meh, that's doesn't really look lny different from any other board battle apart from the fact that Point starts limping.
