Thank you for adding a lot to the discussion. I forgot that there's a massive difference in a players ability at age 34 and 9 months compared to age 35 and 0 months. I am glad you enlightened us all with that fact.
Yeah it's a whole seasons worth of time.
Of all the gambles we could conceivably take to try and got over the top in Hank's prime, dealing Brassard and minor assets for Thornton is about as appealing as it gets. I don't think people understand just how much better he is than Brassard even in his mid-thirties.
Agree wholeheartedly, and the guy can be counted on defensively, add to the fact that he has size which the Rangers lack down the middle, and is a better playmaker, proven chemistry with Nash, no issues with inconsistency, a reliable power play producer, and needs a cup for his legacy.
I would deal Brassard, JMoore, and prospects for Thornton and not bat an eyelash.
Thornton averages more assists than Brassard does points. It would free up the Stepan unit for 2nd pair D matchups. The Rangers would be filthy deep with Joe Thornton over Brassard.
I would look at it as a missing element sort of trade. The Rangers imo last year lacked that offensive RHD, and a frontline center with size from last year's roster. If Thornton is added, then those two holes are covered, and upgraded on from last year's team.
