but he's not worth 50,000 less than Bryan Little, he's worth less than that.

Either way, it's an overpay.

If we don't sign him what exactly is there out there that is even remotely close to replacing him? Any C who isn't total dreck is locked up to a long term deal and the ones who aren't who do get to the market are going to be even more expensive than this.

He did. Little signed his contract a year before when the cap was 64.3. That contract signed today would be worth 5.05M. Also I think Little;s contract buys out 3 UFA years while Brassard's buys out 4. I don't understand why almost nobody understands that. You cannot use static numbers in a world where the cap number changes every year and use them to compare contracts.

Bingo. Perspective is very important.

A little bit more than I would've given him. Could've been worse, but not a great deal.

Get out of here with your logic and perspective.

All I can do is laugh.

Joke of a contract. Yeah let's give an average 2C $5M long term wooooo! Chemistry!!!1

Wow, that's even high praise. At no point in Brass' career has he even been an "average" 2c.

Was placed on the first two lines in Columbus and caved. Produced well on the 3rd line.

Came here this year and caved once he had that type of responsibility. Again, he had to go down to the 3rd line and even be paired with our best set up man.

I'd have given him the 1 year QO and signed Zucc to the long contract.

Idiotic.

5M for 45 points is disgusting I don't care what other players get with comparable numbers there is no way this dudes a 5m a year player...Ladies and gents meet our new whipping boy

Its much easier to be a fan of another team and laugh/hope the Rangers made a bad move when they didn't.

Market value and an easily tradeable asset if he keeps up the production hes given NYR.

Just have to hope there isn't a NMC.

Just because market value dictates that he'll make $5M per, doesn't mean he's worth it.

I mean fine then don't pay him 5M and sign a bunch of 3rd/4th line centers for 2M like Brian Boyle or hope to get lucky and find the one or two guys with randomly cheap deals like Ribeiro and Legwand for some reason.

His AAV is higher than Mac Trucks and Zuccs for a long time. It's not market value, it's Allan Walsh reaming another GM.

The guy is a 2nd/3rd line tweener with consistency issues, never score 20 G or 50 points and takes advantage of favorable matchups. I want him to well, but this is a mini Richards contract.

This isn't going to be a tradeable contract without retaining salary if Brassard doesn't step up. If he does and plays better than yeah you can live with it, but if he doesn't, and he's never shown signs of taking that next step, well there's that bad contract that everyone here will bemoan.

Let's see how popular he is on these boards with this new contract.

I would've retained Pouliot at the contract EDM gave him instead. The Rangers gave the least consistent linemate on that superb line the most money.

If that's the market value and he continues his type of play, there would be a trade market for him with a rising cap right? I think that's better than letting him walk out the door for nothing.

Have already said I'd rather sign Zucc long term and I'll add this

Its much more likely Zucc raises his value this year than Brass does. Think we couldve waited on Brass. I don't see Brass turning into a 6M player after this year. I think Zucc can.

Yeah, that would have been much preferable.

Definitely would not have given that to Poo.

I would've absolutely given it to Zuke, though.

If Brass has a sub-50 point season this year a lot of people are gonna sour on him when we can't find the money to give Zuke a deal he deserves.

At least we know the reason why Zucc only signed one year, wouldn't be possible with a long term contract for him with this kind of deal for Brassard.

Of course Bryan Little had a 30 goal season under his belt at that point. Let's hope Brass continues to improve.

Yes and he also takes the top checking line duties and is a prime time penalty killer. Legitimate top 6 center with 60 point ability. Market value my tuchus.

Here's to hoping Brassard has some hidden gear that he hasn't hit yet and steps it up a tad this year. Giving him a more consistent LW should help, and with the addition of Boyle, I can see his PP numbers going up.

I can't even fathom how I'd react to a situation like that.

If we lose Zucc so we can keep ****ing Brassard...

I think the Rangers will miss Poo, though that doesn't mean they should've given him that contract.

I'm going to go on record here as not a fan of this contract.

I get that centers are scarce, but this isn't a good situation. That's not a far cry from what Richards was making over the next 6 years.

It's just too much for a player of his resume and caliber.

Why are people solely looking at Brassard's regular season numbers to decide that this contract is terrible? He has been one of our best playoff performers in the two years he has been here, I'd say that holds just a little bit of weight.
