He got his due later. I will never forget the justice that was dished out by Mcsorley. Head Slash ftw.

Justice ? For what ? McSorley actively looking to get his ass kicked repeatedly?

Donald Brashear may have laid out some questionable hits, but who at that time hadn't. And when you're his size, they hurt. It was his role and if you think bumping a goalie and talking shit didn't happen pretty much daily, you didn't watch hockey then.

Brashear had a ridiculous upbringing, it's surprising he isn't a murderer, and post-NHL works making affordable hockey sticks for the disadvantaged. How that makes him a piece of shit, but someone cheering for another human to be stuck in the face with a stick so they're convulsing on the ground is all good? Weird. What a garbage post and outlook.

Ya well getting slashed on your shoulder pad doesn't really hurt. Every player that has ever played hockey has probably used his stick as a weapon at some point.

What's worse is pinning a guy on the ice and repeatedly punching him in the face which is exactly what Brashear did when he played in the LNAH.

What's worse is confusing these two situations.

You haven't played hockey at any meaningful level if you think McSorley didn't have the ability to distinguish: FACE / SHOULDER and the velocity of a swing hard enough to knock him out.

You're just flat out wrong.

Brashear was always a clown.

McSorley wasn't a clown but he was extremely dirty, some really nasty spears in the 80's and early 90's.

How the f*** can you not be a "clown" and extremely dirty at the same time.

Brashear wasn't a clown. He was a goon. A role that people had back then. McSorely was a piece of shit that needed to cross lines repeatedly because he became incapable of dealing with shit in other ways.

Brashear didn't resort to half the shit McSorely did in his career. Ya'll sound like teenagers that never actually watched his career.

Nope. That had nothing to do with the original video and everything to do with McSorely being a total moronic arse (Brasher was an arse too, but not a dumb one like McSorely was).

In their actual fights, Brasher destroys McSorely with ease.

And this is the whole story of that incident (via a short video).

Nonsense. As someone who was at that game, that video skips a ton of the story. Brashear ran Byron Dafoe and knocked him out of the game. To which Brashear skated past the Bruin bench and taunted the entire team with his stupid Adonis pose. 3rd period Breshear barely saw the ice but for some stupid reason whats his name coach throws Breshear on the ice in the waning minutes of a blowout game with McSorley already on the ice.

Nevermind, the fans in Vancouver can suck my ass. If my GF at the time wasn’t in a wheelchair due to a serious broken leg and I was pushing her, we never would have made it out alive, Bruin fans were being jumped left and right in the crowd. I never made the trip back up from Seattle for a Bruin game again up in Vancouver. Not worth my time, getting arrested in a foreign country over stupid fans.

The old you didn't play hockey line...how pathetic lol. I've played hockey my whole life and if you don't think slashes get misplaced then you're flat out wrong. Whether that's the case with Mcsorley it's hard to say.

Keeping idolizing Huggy Bear and ignore all the dirty crap he pulled as a player tho. Just a joke that you bring up him being charitable like that has anything to do with what he was like on the ice. I'm sure McSorley has donated plenty of time/money to charity fwiw.

Here's one of the more recent dirty plays by Brashear. It's around 50 seconds into the video

Classy guy all the way.

Honestly, and truthfully, it got very crazy and scary after McSorley whacked Brashear. Trying to get out was mayhem. We had access to the elevator because of the wheelchair but when the door opened 4 guys looked right at me and then down at my GF in the chair, then one of them gets in my face and says I am lucky she was a cripple or they would have kicked my ass. They proceed to jump a 60 yr old guy in a Bruins sweater 20 ft down the hallway. It was f***ed up. I went back for other games but never a Bruins game and especially not after they lost the Cup to those Bruins.

People beating up each other over sports teams is most certainly dumb, and multiple people jumping a single individual (especially old people) is cowardly. It's better when hooligans beat up each other on mutual grounds.

We had an incident here in my home country a few years ago where a soccer hooligan in his late 20s hit a 43-year old supporter of another team who fell and hit his head in the pavement and died. The guy who died was just a normal beer drinking "julgran" ("Christmas tree"), that's what normal soccer supporters are called by the hooligans.

As a hooligan you're not supposed to hit Christmas trees. It's against "the code", apparently.

Hard to feel bad that he got clubbed in the head when he did stuff like that.
Nah, McSorley never should have whacked him in the head. It crossed the line.

What I used to say back then was most of the blame should have been shouldered by Marc Crawford. McSorely and Brashear were two goons that had been going at each other all night. As I said, Brashear barely saw the ice from the start of the 3rd peroid to when he was thrown out there at the end of a blow out game. Never should have happened. Everyone knew the code back then and coaches knew how to send a message to the rest of the league by sending out goons at the end of a game that was out of control. There as no need to tempt fate or instigate more goonery in that game but that’s exactly what Crawford did. Never surprised me he was involved in the Bertuzzi incident either.

Agree on Crawford, he always seemed like a loose cannon type of coach. He was a scrappy player himself who had six straight seasons in the 80s where he alternated between the AHL (Fredericton, NB) and the NHL (Vancouver).

Anyone have a clip of the Brashear-Dafoe incident? I feel like that is important for context, Dafoe was an excellent goalie at that point in his career.

Here's some new footage/interview from the Brashear/McSorley incident.

This includes more footage of Marty challenging Brashear on that fateful night, and Brashear wanting no part.

I always had the vibe that Brashear never enjoyed his role as an enforcer. Watching his fights from his Montreal days cringe inducing, legitimately terrified when he was squaring off.
He was the king of the fake glove drop.

He ducked Scott Parker for a while and even opted to fight Greg DeVries in one game.

Brashear was always a spot picker. Not liked by lots in the enforcer community as yabo just spoke out against him.
I think he did like his job he mostly was about himself. I remember after a game towards the end of his career he got a misconduct for nothing and said the nhl was just becoming gay. He had no idea what was coming in the future

One of my all time favorite easy-to-miss-details in hockey is that there was a second puck on the ice when McSorley slashed Brashear. It's clearly visible at 5:00. If that play had gone on for another 5 seconds it would have had to stop because of the extra puck.

You could watch the NHL for 30 years and not see a player get clubbed like that OR see a second puck on the ice. Both happened at the same time.

Look at Matt Cooke at the end of the incident just taking down notes on how to be a POS

Brashear was running his mouth in that game, claiming to be the "Heavyweight Champ" at the Bruins bench. McSorley had enough. Brashear tried to sell the stick to the head, but ended up really smacking his empty head on the ice for real. Still have no sympathy for him.

Did Brashear really use those exact words ("Heavyweight Champ")? Source? That's interesting, because I and many others felt Probert edged him out just months earlier (Jan 2000):
For the record, up until this point, Probert still had a slight edge over Brashear in their series (in my opinion). Or at the very least it was even, although Probert took a beating in round 6.
