Brantford Bulldogs 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

Welp. Not our night. Getting worked pretty good.
Timing is right for it. Reality check for the team, and opportunity to improve and regain confidence before they start playoffs.

Still blows my mind no one in the WHL wanted Elliott…

Londons game plan was on point, and the Bulldogs didn't fight through. LDN pk and being heavy on the puck from start to finish.

Nobody wanted to battle like they did. It happens. Throw it in the trash.

Can learn a lot from a game like that.

Disappointed in the result but I don't think that it's an indication of any issues just yet. Lots of season to go.

Not gunna lie…worried this team is going to be toast by the time playoffs arrive.

Deja vu of last year battling for the top spot in the conference and by the time April hit there wasn’t a whole lot left in the tank. This year has been a longer, tighter, bigger battle for that top spot. Hope I’m wrong and we can actually roll into the playoffs with 4 full lines…

Really need the depth to stay healthy. I know its an obvious thing yo say, but the roster is really top heavy in the F group.

Don’t we all know it. There is plenty of additional talent on the team, but none of them have been consistently healthy to allow any other lines to develop chemistry.

It was a nice win but it didn't really inspire a lot of confidence as a viewer.

Lardis seemed to play the entire game and with how ineffective the bottom 6 is, you can see why. Just nothing really dangerous coming out of them.

Team needs to get healthy but I'm not sure that'll happen.

One of those games where everything just went right.

Huge congrats to Lardis. What a season!

Also, wondered why he grabbed the puck after his 69th goal and then realized Patrick Thomas had just set the all time Bulldogs scoring record. Great job by Thomas as well.

This weekends games really showed how much influence O'Brien has in the lineup. They became a 1 line team very quickly when he wasn't there.(as opposed to their normal 2 lines lol)

For sure just one of those junior hockey games that happens.

When this team gets 5 on 5 production from anyone that isn't the Brown/Thomas/Lardis line they are very hard to beat. O'Brien is shooting 25%, its incredible how often he scores when he actually shoots the puck.

Congratulations to Thomas, huge accomplishment. If O'Brien plays a full 4 years here, I think that record gets obliterated. Hell, he's less than 100 pts from it now.

Hey Bulldog fans... Caps fan here, who doesn't think he's ever actually seen Patrick Thomas play.

BLUF: Does he have NHL potential?

Hes 20 and needs to be signed (or his rights given up) by June 1. He's obviously got good numbers, has had good numbers to varying degrees for a few seasons now. But I don't know if his numbers are because of his age/experience, maybe who he plays with, or if he's legitimately 'good'.

It's fairly rare to see players with significant NHL potential play 5 seasons in the OHL, which is what prompts the question. I've had a weird fascination with "why isn't he signed yet" since last season. Per the Bulldogs site, he's 6'0" and 178 lbs, which is light for the pros, but I'm guessing with the right training environment he could add weight. (Not a guarantee of course, but hopeful.)

Educated opinion from a Caps fan that closely follows junior hockey is that Thomas is deserving of a contract, at least, but isn't willing to guess at his long term outcome.

Any guesses as to whether he'll be AHL quality next season (in a DEEP org), or ECHL? (Or, other)

Thanks in advance.

I don’t think you’ll see him sign with the Caps..I think he’ll end up playing somewhere in the NCAA next year, and then maybe signing with another NHL team at some point depending how his NCAA journey goes.

He’s one of those guys with very high IQ that is 3 steps ahead of everyone else. Playmaker Patty.

Much appreciate the opinion, thank you. Given the Caps' depth, going the NCAA route you theorize might be a good move for him.

(For clarity, I've seen highlights of him - including some damn nice playmaking - but never a full game.)

I tend to agree with the other reply you received. He doesn't really have any physical tools that jump up and impress you.

He's having a tremendous year, and id consider him a great Bulldog and a good junior player. I think his numbers this year can be attributed to his age/experience, hockey IQ, the Bulldogs PP is fantastic, and both his wingers are having incredible years.

Of course you can't dismiss his wingers success has something to do with his playmaking.

I don't know if he's earned an ELC. It'll be fascinating to see how the NCAA landscape changes next year.
