Confirmed with Link: Brady to Fla: 9oa, 25oa, 2029 1st, and a 2nd

So much cope and denial in these comments. It's going to be quite the wake-up call when the draft comes and goes and we're basically stuck with only 3 top-6 players + maybe Debrusk, and some average prospects who won't get here until our "contending" window is over.

Well, that and a 2029 top-10 protected 1st which is also not going to help this edition of the Sens.
I'm not saying we're a better team today without him. But we had a really good season (goaltending notwithstanding), and much of that was either with Brady out of the lineup or mailing it in. I just don't think the sky is falling.

Like I've said before, people can keep saying it's not Staios' fault for being put in this situation all they want, the fact remains that we are now minus our captain and only top-6 LW, and the return very likely won't help replace not only him, but get us the other winger we absolutely need going forward.

Things are about to get real dark around here once people realize just how little other teams are willing to help a team in this situation, not to mention how little we can get on an already bad UFA market.

Nobody is going to "help" Ottawa, nor should anyone expect that. But teams will value some of the assets Ottawa now has to trade. There are plenty of teams that will be very interested in moving into the top 10 to draft one of the defensemen that will be available at #9.

Also we don't need to replace what Brady Tkachuk was at his best. Because he hasn't played close to that level over the past two seasons.

We need to replace a guy who's scored 51 goals and 114 points over 132 games the last two years. That's a 31 goal, 70 point per 82 game player. Not nearly as daunting.

Will it sting to see Brady revitalized in Florida? Sure.

But he was never going to play that way here. He stopped playing that way here a long time ago.

Can we bring in a 70 point winger, a 60 point winger, and continue growing without the white noise that the Tkachuk's generated? I think so.

Do I think we'll win the cup next year? No. But the floor isn't going to fall out from under us.

When did Brady make himself the centre of controversy?

Well hosting a weekly podcast with a division rival and then letting your family talk trash about your starting goalie on that podcast is certainly a choice.

Some would call it controversial. I would call it being a massive traitorous dickhead. Or a terrible leader. Or, given what was happening with Ullmark, just a bad person.

I was a Brady fan who was holding out hope that his half-assed play this year was out of his control. Until he pulled that garbage.

Pretty hard to deny that he was becoming a distraction and significant reason for that was Brady himself.

This is still a playoff team with an elite goaltender, a solid defense, and some talented forwards. With the off-season just starting, I’m sure Staois will make improvements to the roster. How many superstars does Carolina have again? It’s not about the players you have, but how you play the game—it’s all about system and structure. Look Colorado: they have all the talent in the world, but did they win the Stanley Cup? A good system will always beat a purely skilled team.
Carolina has far more "quality" depth at both forward and defence than the Sens. Carolina could play their game not only because they committed to their system but they had the players to do so.

Yeah I don't understand where all this positivity is coming from. We are bleeding talent and have only some picks to show for it and so many holes on offense.

Guess people think other teams are salivating at the thought of trading us their star players for two non top-5 first round picks they know we need to use this week?
Bleeding talent? We lost one 60-70 point winger who can't skate and doesn't play defense. You're making it sound like a mass exodus.

The sky isn't falling but at the same time it isn't getting brighter. Florida and Toronto both missed the playoffs last season and they will be in them this year based on their additions. ( counting Barkov as an addition)

Carolina added all of Stankoven, Hall, Ehlers and Miller, along with graduating Nikishin and Blake in the span of like 6 months.

I think Ottawa has different obstacles than Carolina and all that but maybe people should give it a minute to see how the roster shakes out. I absolutely think it just got harder for us to win but I doubt we are about to become a wreck or anything.

Well the fact is we have 8 mil more cap space, and 3 more 1st round picks, do you really think we're going to start the season with no more changes to the roster? Who's being delusional now.
His point could still potentially be correct tho especially if the target is McTavish like many think

We’d still only have 2 elite players despite the draft capital and 25M.

Well it took years for Carolina to get to where they were this year.

Think of what they went through.

Look at all the players they lost for nothing. Impact players who said "I don't want to play here anymore" and just walked out the door as free-agents: Pesce, Skjei, Orlov, Teravainen, Hamilton, Trocheck.

Look at some of the blunders they've made: Offer sheeting Kotkaniemi. Losing Geekie in expansion.

Look at some of the things fans called disasters: Necas (arguably their best pure talent who they drafted and who went on to score 100pts in Colorado) for Rantanen (who wanted no part of them and told them so 2 weeks after the trade) for Stankoven (who at the time of the trade had 9 goals in 59 games with Dallas).

Hell, a lot of people roasted them for the Miller trade and extension.

And then look at them now.

Some of you guys would have jumped off their bandwagon long ago. You wouldn't have had the stomach for it.

I'm not 100% sure I'm interpreting this correctly, but Friedman seems to indicate in the 32 thoughts pod today that once it came down to decision time that Brady ultimately forced his way to Florida (rather than any other team).

Of course there will be some changes but don't hold your breath for impactful changes. With the cap going up teams have less pressure to unload quality vets they can't afford. Also the free agent class is mediocre at best. And then you have the fact that some of the most desirable teams such as Anaheim and San Jose have lots of cap room and multiple prospects to deal from.

Yeah, it sounds like in the end he was only going to waive for Florida.

The list probably helped Staios get a better offer from Florida, at least.

Similar reporting yesterday stated that Minnesota made a big offer. Was implied that it was better than Florida's package.

But Brady told Staois it was Florida or nothing.

Seems pretty clear at this point that he used his trade protection to demand a trade to the Panthers.
