Lafreniere and a slight add for BT . Seems like a fair deal for both clubs . At some point BT will want out and best to trade before it comes to that I think. Sens get a skilled kind of local guy with lots of upside and Rangers get a truculent player they desperately need . Each would likely then become leaders of their new clubs . I can see it helping both clubs ....if Sens get the right +/add in the deal . Hopefully they can get it ironed out .so it helps both teams .

you Rangers fans can't possibly actually think this is a fair trade

right?

Awful, like god awful

Kreider turns 34 and only 2 years left after the season. Lindgren don't have any value left

Pinto just turned 24 y/o but missed 1.5 years of development with an injury and a suspension.

When healthy, Chabot is a puck possession monster and play driver who is elite in transition. I do want to see him somewhere else though (for his own sake) but not with this trade

Another really bad deal for Ottawa, as much as they'd need to add a Frederic

Batherson is the 2nd best offensive player on the team and makes less than 5 M$

Debatable. Stutzle is younger, cheaper, 1st line 2-way C and has more term left. Age and contracts are very big factors in players value.

Where do I sign?

I mean Tkachuk is a first line power forward but Laf is special and fits more what the Sens need

I want to watch Lafreniere and Stutzle together for 10+ years

Lafreniere - Stutzle - Batherson, what a line that would be.
Stutzle is a good young player, but Fox is a 26 year old perennial Norris contender, and has been generally considered top-3 in the NHL for 4 years in a row. Let’s not make it out like Stutzle is Crosby and Fox is a 34 year old 2nd pair D on the downswing. Especially not over $1M in annual cap hit and 1 extra year on the deal. I’d love Stutzle on the Rangers, but I think 31 teams are taking Fox instead, given the choice.

Tkachuk brings more right now than Lafreniere. He also brings the types of intangibles we lack. Now maybe he wouldn’t make us better with those intangibles and Lafreniere being two years younger will be better in two years, but I see the logic. I wouldn’t hate it, but I don’t think I’m running to make the trade either.

What I’d hate is Lafreniere and Kakko for Tkachuk.

The factors are cumulative... and it's not 1 year

1.15 AAV less + 4 years younger + 2 more years left

Stutzle is a huge bargain at 8.35 AAV. Fox is also very highly valuable asset as well, that's why I mentioned him as the only Rangers asset in a discussion for Stutzle.

Anyway, you'll see in the short term future what Stutzle is becoming.

I'm a Sens fan and I would do it 1 for 1

this underrates stutzle. 1C are tough to find. i don't think either team agreed to trade them straight up.

y'all are shitting on it, but what I'm proposing is actually it lol.

sens need leadership up front, with skill and talent to make it stick. Giroux is not it. (The bottom 6 is close but getting a Bjugstad in for Pinto would do well to go with the Cousins/Amadio contingent.)

Kreider, a noted clutch performer, is *exactly* what they need. Hatty against Carolina to save the season. Special teams Ace - scores goals on Pp, Pk, and evens. Leads by example, locker room beauty. Don't look at the age, look at the production. He has it when it matters.

Lindgren is a 3rd pair/PK specialist who can eat minutes and take some matchup load off of the young ascending blue line studs. The reason he doesn't fit on the Rangers now is that they're asking him to do too much.

Chabot at that price point is ultimately redundant, and inconsistent. Pinto needs a fresh start. The money works, the fit works. Y'all are hung up on value but missing the important stuff.

It’s just a bad example, because it completely goes contrary to what the Sens would be trying to do here.

The Rangers are in their window now and it might not be for much longer. The Sens are rebuilding and finding out they’re not quite as close as they hoped to be, and finally dawning on everyone that Brady isn’t the leader they hoped would be in his prime for the window. So to change team culture they’d need to trade him away and make the younger star center their new captain.

Suggesting that the deal could be massaged so that the Sens keep the guy they’re trying to part with and move the years-younger guy they’re trying to promote to leader of their not-imminent compete window … is to completely ignore every single thing about what this proposal would be trying to accomplish.

I'll be shocked if the Senators rebuild. None of their moves suggest a willingness to rebuild. They are trying to get a downtown arena going. I doubt they want to strangle the marketplace any further with another 5-10 years of no playoffs by executing another rebuild.

That's why I assume a Brady trade would be more of a hockey trade. In season, it pretty much has to be because of the cap in and out.

The situation with Brady is that his NMC kicks in on July 1st 2025. So if he wants to leave, or they think he will want to leave at some point, they have to consider moving him before that time in order to get max value. Once his NMC kicks in, they are getting whatever 2-3 assets Vegas/Tampa/Florida/Dallas decides to give them.

They aren't getting better on paper by moving Brady now in season, but if a trade is inevitable they could possibly save the season by expediting it. It's still early enough that if they trade Brady and send a shockwave through the room, maybe the team rallies around that and can get back into playoff contention. If they wait until January, it's not only a lost season, but it's quickly going to become a distraction if the media pick up on anything.

Staios also apparently gauged the value of all his assets when he took over, including Brady. So he probably has an idea of what the market might be and won't have to start the process from scratch if they decide to move him in season.

I think the Rangers would likely have to throw additional assets into the deal in the OP. From the Sens side, Boucher could probably be sent to the Rangers as a humanitarian move/throw in because his career is floundering, and the Rangers apparently liked him at the draft. The Senators likely feel pressure to recover a first round pick because they may not have their 1st this year due to being fined a pick by the league from the Dadonov fiasco.

The base in the OP was more of an exercise to figure out what could actually be compliant in season. Something like Tkachuk/JBD/MacEwan for Lafreniere/Lindgren/Kakko is very close to cap in/cap out and the Rangers have a few 100k in space to cover the difference. While JBD/MacEwan don't play the same roles as Lindgren/Kakko, they are warm NHL bodies that make the trade 2F+1D for 2F+1D. So from a cap/roster standpoint, it would be the most seamless possible trade both sides could make in season.

1C and 1D are both very hard to find. The difference is that in this example, the 1D is undeniably top-3 at his position in the entire league, and has the awards and nominations to back it up. The 1C hasn’t finished top 7 in scoring, nor in the top 25 for defense at his position. Again, Stutzle is a very good young player, and looks to be a good 1C already. The issue is Fox isn’t just a 1D, he’s one of the best at his position for 4 straight years (since he came into the NHL) and is 26. We can’t say that about Stutzle at this stage.

A prominent Sens board insider has been floating

Laf+Kakko+Lindgren = 9.225M
Tkachuk+JBD= 9.010714

Could there be legs to this? Would both sides do it?

replace laf with kreider and i think we have something

Zib isn't moving, with an NMC, and certainly isn't moving to return to ottawa.

they don't need a C, they need a LHD. Chabot pinto for kreider lindgren is the trade

HUGE NO ON all of these ^.
Kreider not being sold cheap
Kakko, LaF not on the table
exception: I'd look at something around LaF for Sanderson, but he's too highly regarded by OTT, so there

I love Laf, but no way I trade Brady. Ottawa keep him for life. A couple tweaks and this could be a playoff team.

Brady in the playoffs is what I want to see as a hockey fan.

Laf also has 7 years on his contract after this one compared to only 3 for Brady. They’re both underpaid in a rising cap so even if you can resign them, the extra years have a lot of value.

If the Rangers or any other team gets Brady this season, that's four playoff runs with him. At that point, there is no real difference between 4 years and 8 years because 4 years in the future is far enough off that Brady walking won't be a consideration. The GM who acquires him this season if he is traded knows that they statistically are unlikely to still be the GM in 4 years.

Not to mention, the Rangers generally don't have a difficult time keeping player because they are a very appealing destination, and they can spend on things like signing bonuses and front loaded money. So the dynamic is different than say if Columbus acquired him.

You'd be getting Tkachuk for Kreider and Kakko and you say that?

Damn, what do you think Kreider is worth? Hughes + Bratt?
Tkachuk is solid, not his brother, but solid, but not a fit for Rs esp using that currency

Rs should listen to bern, extend the window, keep cap mgmt under control = roster flexibility by adding quality youth over vets

while Tka. is not particularly old, he is gonna be expensive
unless you consider him a one and done rental

avoid the headache later by not doing deal now, not for high end pieces
