Proposal: Brady Tkachuk to New Jersey

If I were to be completely honest, I think KFC's a great complimentary player who has a tougher time adjusting to the physicality during the playoffs. Jets already have a decision to make on Ehlers this summer who brings a similar, albeit different skill set to the lineup and probably won't cost as much to retain when KFC reaches UFA. I think Brady would fit the style our top line with Scheifele and Vilardi wants to play with the cycle and heavy forecheck better overall.

KFC looked amazing to start the year before Kucherov ran him over from behind and since then he hasn't really taken over a game the way he did in Detroit for example. Maybe that's all the road games they've played recently, maybe it has to do with Scheifele's injury limiting the lines effectiveness, but KFC has seemingly cooled off. I struggle to find another player that Ottawa would covet as a base in the trade outside of Morrissey which would cripple our back end.

Scheifele's too old, Vilardi is decent, but probably not quite the main piece I could see Ottawa wanting.. it doesn't really leave much as Winnipeg is getting by more on their depth than any elite tier players. Particularly our third line which kills it every night.

I wonder if Perfetti would be a piece in a deal for Tkachuk.

A pair of rentals (yes rentals, they were pending UFAs) and a 1st 3+ years away for an 100+ point defensively strong 24 year old RFA.

It really wasn't the dream return. And Brady is a lot lesser than his brother

The "RFA" was going to walk the following year if he wasn't traded to a handpicked team.

One of the "rentals" scored 115 points the prior year and immediately signed an extension. The other rental is a solid top four defenseman who also signed an extension. They also got a prospect and a first round pick. You can find commentary on the return here, consensus was a bit different than how you describe the situation. Was a bit surprising to me because I thought Calgary should have started bottoming out but seems like they preferred this sort of return given how quickly they signed the guys to extensions.

Yes, they needed to pay 17 mill a year until both these guys are into their late 30s to keep them. Truly added to their value.
