This might get a lot of push back but in the scenario where he stays past this season, I think it might be time to strip the captaincy from him. The truth is, a guy like Sanderson makes a ton more sense for that kind of role. He plays a shitload of minutes, he's on the ice for virtually every scenario, he plays against the best players on every team, he plays extremely hard and fair and he has the kind of lead-by-example quality that makes him in the mold of an Alfredsson, who was the best style of captain in this team's history. And I'm not saying Sanderson is the only alternative, just giving what I think is a good example.

Maybe it's the kind of step that could help Brady refocus his energy and commitment. No need to worry about being a captain and all the duties that entails, just play hockey in the way everyone knows he's capable of.

Do you really want that distraction? I don't think something as contentious as Brady being stripped of his captaincy is going to allow him to focus. It would be the opposite.

If they are at the point where that is something they think is necessary for the room, then just trade him and cash in while his value is sky high.

It might be a distraction for the first stretch of games but, also, if they strip him of the captaincy after the season ends (presuming they miss the playoffs), then there will be almost 6 months of separation between that and the start of the next season. I think it will lose its sting over time and maybe with some good messaging from the front office to him, they can help him understand it's for his benefit.

That said, I totally understand it will cause some tensions but I, quite frankly, don't care about that anymore. This team's single organizational purview should be winning. Every player, every role, every staff member should be considered under evaluation until the winning culture manifests itself. If you have to strip some letters from guys to get them motivated, so be it.

Correction: comparing a do or die game in an exhibition tournament to the most important stretch of hockey in his 7 year NHL career.

I’m just commenting on what Brady is saying himself. If he’s sitting out because he wants to “feel 100%” then I think he’s hanging his team out to dry.

If he’s not medically cleared to play? Okay. But if it’s an “I could play but would prefer a couple more days…” well this isn’t the time to pull that. That’s how you handle it in November. Not March.

Hmmm such a tough call…whose narrative to believe?!

The training staff and one of the toughest guys in the NHL who burns to play getting himself right to give everything he’s got for the rest of the year because he’s dying to make the playoffs.
Or
Some endlessly whiny dude sitting in the dark at his basement computer with cheetos crumbs all over his grease stained shirt.

Did it look like every other player on the Canadian and American teams were treating it like an exhibition game?? Its still one game vs 25.

In regards to the bolded, you've already decided how Brady made his mind up. You've already concluded he can play and is selfishly deciding to sit. You don't even play the other card, you don't have an alternate scenario.

Brady! Brady! Brady!
I mean….
USA! USA! USA!
I mean….
Ah what’s the difference. Go sens go.

Isn't it interesting how quickly fans turn on their team & certain players so quickly & blame them for all the wrongs in the world.

Watch us end up doing what Minnesota did a few years ago, where someone new gets the C every month.

In all seriousness, regardless of what anyone wants, we can't strip the C from BTkachuk. It has a chance of making the locker room worse which might affect our already barely wildcard ass team.

He said that he doesn't want to have something that lingers because he said that he won't help the team at 50% trying to tough it out. Instead he had some more treatment and is ready to go 24 games hard. I am not sure how you can fault that logic. Why come back and aggravate the injury and then we are really f***ed. 24 games people , breathe

Thanks for the insight. Glad to hear he wants to play it safe, if he plays through an injury and then we make the playoffs... won't be good for the longevity of his career.
