Player Discussion Brady Tkachuk (LW) - Part XI

The only concern I have is I don't think we get that grace when the shoe is on the other foot, so you're giving the other team an advantage by being overly sportsmanlike. Not saying he should have handled it differently, but I don't think it's a rat thing. I'd bet 99% of players would have skated to the bench and chuckled to themselves.
Well, he probably avoided getting fined for embellishment the way Norris did, so there's that. Saved himself 2k and we still won the game.

I don't think he gets fined, it’s hard to even see that it actually misses in video.
If Brady hadn’t said it missed, I wouldn’t of known from replay.
Everyone knows that’s a natural reaction, when a stick is that close.

The play Norris got fined on looked like he just got tripped up as he tried to role around the Det defender.

Wrt Brady, it's not the initial reaction pulling his head back, it's the glove to his face, I think they'd see that as embellishment even if it was a natural reaction, sens don't get the benefit of the doubt too often.

Guess we can disagree on a fine being issued then.

Tkachuk praised for calling off high stick as a gesture of sportsmanship.

His defensive play has been pretty strong recently. The offense will come.

I don't even think it's the lack of offense that is upsetting me, it's the decision making with the puck. Most plays literally die on his stick and especially in cycles. If ANYONE is supposed to be effective at cycling it's him. The way Matthew is. But so many 1 and done plays in offensive zone the moment Tkachuk touches the puck.

I too hope that will also be fixed and have seen it in the past become addressed. It's almost like he has too much confidence with the puck. He doesn't play to his limitations as a power forward sniper, he tries to exceed them as a dangling skating wizard.

I agree that he gave up some bad ones against Boston. But that's the only game I can think of recently where he's been really bad. I think our PP overall has been bad recently and Tkachuk sticks out whenever he's on the PP, because if he takes a shot or make a terrible pass, there has been no second or third efforts by the rest of our team to crash for the puck. I also believe he needs to make better decisions in the offensive zone, on the PP or five v five. But that could also be said for a lot of the players. Stü made some stinky bad passes versus Boston, but he made up for it with offense. It's easy to forget when they are producing goals.

I think he just has too many and too long dips in his play. He has the tools to contribute when he is not scoring. And he has to simplify his game to get rid of some of the mistakes.
