Even if he plays the way you want him to it still doesn't change the lack of production from the bottom six and defense.
I'm not saying you're incorrect. I am simply saying, we need a captain who lives and breathes a culture of winning. Otherwise, I think Staios has done a terrible job building out our bottom 6 with ACTUAL players and if it's not the coach going, maybe his job should be on the line? I also think Giroux needs to release his NMC and we need to get him off the roster as soon as possible. He has added nothing to this top-6 recently. Tkachuk is a great player and I want to keep him around for the long haul, but I am currently not impressed with the fact he still tries to cheat our D zone.

Give York a listen on Coming in Hot and Pounder on Locked on Sens today. Both good.

Let’s be honest, Tkachuk has gotten off incredibly easy considering what Alfredsson and Karlsson went through, and those guys won a hell of a lot more.

The standards in this market have certainly changed, that’s for sure.

Brady has never had an ounce of expectation placed on him in terms of winning, and the first time he gets them and his team can’t deliver, heaven forbid he gets some criticism.

I think we need to get past the point where the captain is the only guy who needs to instill a 'winning culture' ... There are maybe 4 guys who I can say have consistency shown a level of urgency and intensity on this roster and one of those is Brady. If the guys behind him showed the level of intensity he has we would be a much better team.

Last night is a perfect example. In a game that is close to a must win as it gets he was possessed....Norris was a ghost and Pinto started trying in the 3rd period. Its just not good enough

I would say Brady is one of the few peoples on most nights that I can say actually wants to play hard. I can't say that for most of the roster. We need more of him not less of him

Playing “hard” is a platitude. I want him to play an effective, winning brand of hockey, every period and every night.

I think he can do it. I don’t think he’s done it.

Jacques Martin said as much. But this year, nothing’s really changed.

Daniel Alfredsson could have played to score 40 goals every year. But he cared about more than just that, and adapted his game accordingly.

The only guy I’ve noticed who’s really made an effort to be a little bit different is Stützle. Everyone else? They’re playing like it’s 2020 and DJ wants them to have a good time. Brady included.

The group as a whole is playing much lower event hockey 5v5, pretty much every defensive metric is showing fewer chances against.

I’d love to see that broken out across lines and games. Is it consistent game to game, or have they had a few very good games, some average games, and then some terrible games? Is the aggregate view deceiving?

Don’t expect you to break that out, but it seems to be the case from watching.

Some games are awesome like against Toronto. And then you have San Jose…

You’ll never be great for 82 games, but it doesn’t seem like we’re at the point yet where we have more very good games than bad. At best it’s 50/50. You’re never quite sure what version of the team you’ll get.

We’ve seen they can be effective when dialed in, but they still take their foot off the guess too much, and we’re not good enough to do that.

You can see the game by game data on Natural statric, here's the link

We've had about 5 or 6 real stinkers imo, but the rest are all pretty consistently below league average in xGA/60 from what I can see.

I agree with this, but unfortunately as the captain, he will take the criticism. Alfie had to take it too due to teams who couldn't get past the first round of the playoffs.

Teams win championships, not fans. I'd rather Brady stick up for his teammates over buckling to the pressure of fans any day.

You ever consider that maybe the issue is with the other guys in the room that heard their captain defend them against the fans and media, and had no response to it? You'd think the other guys would really behind their leader having their backs like that against a rabid fanbase, but they didn't, they didn't elevate their play or anything. And yet the issue is with Brady? Where is the logic in that?

There are times when you should defend the team, there are other times when a call out and/or accountability may be what’s needed. Brady does a lot of the former. He should try the latter.

It’s kind of odd how everyone walks on eggshells when criticizing Brady. His brother never got that benefit of doubt. He shouldered a lot of blame in the disappointing Calgary playoff runs, and during his first year in Florida, his dad went on Toronto radio and called the Panthers a soft team.

Maybe TSN1200 should get him on to do that to his younger son…

As fans sometimes we don't like to be criticized, because we sort of have an air of entitlement related to paying for tickets or just because of our societal culture in Canada and even the USA, who influence us. I never really took it to heart when Brady got pissed about the criticism, but I do also understand why some fans are angry and why they booed. He needs to mature as a captain and player. On most nights he's laying it all on the line for his team and for us, and i recognize that. He's been one of the only players putting goals on the board recently.

I am honestly really angry about this roster and its lack of drive, outside of a few players who are actually playing (Brady, Timmy, Ullmark, Batherson). I want Staios to do something, rather than sitting on his hands like he did last season. I need to see something that sparks this team. If they can't be sparked then start trading them away, until we get a team who can work with Stü and Chucky and Sanderson.

A leader should always have his team's back publicly. You have absolutely no clue if Brady holds people accountable in the room. If Brady thinks that fans booing their own players is uncalled for, then I want him to stand up for that every time.

People "walk on eggshells" because the criticism is usually laughably stupid, like this.

i mean brady played terrible during that stretch

he called out the fans booing since the team was yet again playing bad and complained that it was unfair and then he and they had a meltdown.

Yeah I agree with this.

I don’t care if fans boo, and I don’t care if Brady expresses that he doesn’t like it. At least he’s honest.

this is the thing though.

brady trying to hold ANYONE accountable is total bullshit considering how much he cheats and floats for points.

if brady tried to hold anyone accountable they probably just laugh at him internally.

There are a few players I never question the effort and emotion of. Brady, Timmy, and Giroux. Chabot has been busting his ass this year too, in years past he's seemed nonchalant at times, but it's clear this year he's playing with heart and emotion. Batherson seems to consistently hustle out there too. And then you can throw in guys like Jensen, Zub, Harmonic, Gregor, and Gaudette who seem to bust their ass every game to the best of their abilities. Sanderson has some off nights, but he's a workhorse, I would hope people aren't attributing his lack of production to a lack of heart or passion.

Rarely do those guys have a night where they look like their heart isn't in it. Everyone else though, I simply don't see it consistently enough.

I question Giroux's effort recently. I know he's doing a lot, but I need to see more from him. He needs to call this team out in the dressing room or in the media at the very least. Something to say they need to play harder. Something to say he want's a Stanley Cup.

That's fair. I cut him some slack because it's clear he's aging and can't do things with the same consistency he has before, and so far since he's been here he's played with the heart of a lion.
