Alfie's work effort? Certainly. His on ice antics? Not at all.
And what great things did Giroux accomplish as the flyers captain? No much at all.
Wat.

- longest serving captain in flyers history
- second in games played, points and assists
- 8th in goals
- first in OT goals and shootout goals
- 95 playoff games, 28 goals, 53 assists, and a +6

Not bad at all for a franchise with some historic players.

As a fan I see there lots of “it’s not them it’s us” out there

Brad Marchand said it best to a Bruins fan online who said about the Bruins Cup “we won a Cup” and Marchand said “you didn’t win shit, we the players won the Cup”

The players kinda hate us, so does the media. Ottawa fans are the most disrespected group of fans in the NHL, dont self hate

But we are entering an ugly time to be a fan, brother will turn in brother, media will blame the fans. You’re a good fan, so am I.

But we do have some blame here. Brady is a big strong horse with a cardboard horn glued to his forehead. We're the ones (along with the team and media) who made him out to be a unicorn.

We all pump up these kids so much, they think all they have to do is show up and wins will be given to them. None of the guys on the team right now are giving a 60 minute effort. And it goes well beyond this core. This has been a problem for decades. We shower love on these guys because we're so afraid of be rejected and losing them. Fact is, players move on. Not everyone will want to play here, and we should have more pride in ourselves and our city to say ok, cya!, when they want to go or don't appreciate playing here.

If Brady Tkachuk quits on a backcheck in the 3rd period and quits on a backcheck in OT, you have a Captain who quits on the backcheck, your eyes see it and it just becomes the truth.

Green is saying out loud - the players have to be better. He’s straight up saying the players are missing assignments and playing dumb, and they need to be mentally sharper and the players individually all have to be better. All of them.

And Green is right. The players do have to play better. Those little details and doing them consistently matter. (And win games.)

There was a game about the 10 game mark the Sens won where Brady scored late in 3rd period in a Close game the Sens were winning and I remember watching his goal celebration and commending him for his patience all game and how he really waited and trusted Green that he would get a scoring chance and he did and the entire philosophy seemed to be perfect - the Captain plays for the coach, system rewards Captain with a late goal, everybody is happy. THAT IS DEAD. It is no longer happening and that’s why they are losing and look disorganized. The players know the system works, they just don’t want to play it.

The players need to decide if they want to commit to a team game or not. I think right now they want their game to fit into the model and not the model take over their game. Key players don’t want to concede to the team game and that lack of trust is compounded by rookies making mistakes that aren’t backed up, soft goals courtesy the goalies, suddenly your little ship that was cruising is in a storm in deep water.

What's scoring got to do with being a Captain??? Because if that's the logic you are using Brady is leading the team in goals again this year?
Giroux certainly had personal success but as their Captain they missed the playoffs 7 of 10 years and lost in the 1st round 2 more.

What on ice antics lol?

Being the fiercest competitor we've ever had ?

Or being the best two way player we've had?
Are you serious? Shooting the puck at Niedermeyer, mocking the Sundin broken stick, the Tucker hit from behind into the boards? Plus 2 holdouts for contract disputes and a trade request?
Loved him as a player but let's not pretend he was this great example of how to lead a team.

The stick incident and hit on Tucker were awesome moments in Senators history. Loved to see that fire. Also, f*** Darcy Tucker, dude had it coming with his antics.

Glad Alfie is Brady’s coach, because no one else can better help paint a picture that he too was seen as a bad captain until he was what, 34 years old?
Only idiots and Leaf fans thought he was a bad captain.

While Brady is a bad captain.

He only has 3 years left on his deal, so like it or not, it's going to come to a head at some point soonish since it won't just be left to expiry. If they don't turn it around in years 1 or 2 of that, he's almost certainly going to want to move on. Then he'll have his NMC in place and the destination will be dictated by their camp. Only hope imo is if the team can turn it around, which doesn't look likely.

In the Pittsburgh series in 2013being down 3 games to one Alfredsson said:

when asked if the Senators can come back and win three in a row he said "Probably not. They have too much depth."

Talk about an example of poor leadership by Alfie he said his team is going to probably lose. As a a Captain you never ever are supposed to say that and admit defeat.

Imagine how history would remember the Rangers and Messier had he answered “Probably Not.”

This is a big factor that I think will lead to him getting traded before July 1st.

If he stays beyond July 1st, he doesn't really have 3 seasons left with the Senators because every season that goes by with this team still being a shit show increases the odds that a star like him would ask out, and the closer he gets to being a free agent (1 year, 2 years, etc), along with his NMC (I'll give you 3 teams now, but 1 team if you wait), he would have the leverage to force a trade.

It might end up being a blessing in disguise that we are bad this season if it expedites a retool before his NMC. The last thing we needed was for this team to be a flash in the pan, we keep Brady beyond his NMC, and then after a bad 2025-2026 and 2026-27 we lost him for nothing relative to his value. Of course the best case scenario would have been this team being legitimate and showing they could be a playoff team going forward - but I am not referring to that.

By moving him before his NMC kicks in, we could possibly get a piece or pieces that helps this team for the next 5-10 years. Once his NMC kicks in, we're not getting that. We're getting a late 1st, a roster player, and a couple of B or C prospects.

In a perfect world, our rebuild would have worked out and they would have built a statue of Brady in the Byward Market, but I think people have to accept that probably won't happen.

It was a strange choice of words, but I would like to hear his reason for that. The Senators were a rebuilding team who lucked into the playoffs and had no real offensive weapons outside of Karlsson. Spezza was hurt. It would be almost like San Jose facing Tampa or Winnipeg in the playoffs with Celebrini as their only guy.

It may have been a move to take pressure off the team. It's just such a flagrant thing to say that I doubt it wasn't thoughtful.

The tucker hit won the team a playoff game. Also f*** tucker. That is one of the best moments in sens history.

The sundin stick throwing thing was hilarious. Even sundin himself thought so.

Neidermayer play was dumb, I'll give you that one.

The holdouts were never bad. He took a retirement contract with a 1 million dollar season expecting to be compensated for that if he continued to play. Melnyk told him to piss off, so he signed with a different team.

I can't recall a trade request.

He was rhe hardest worker on the ice his entire time playing in ottawa, and he deserved the conn smythe even when they lost to the ducks. That was one of th3 most dominant playoff performances I've ever seen period. And right up there with the Karlsson run in 17.

Alfie was a fantastic leader, loyal, and the most complete player this team has ever had.

If tkachuk had half of alfies work ethic he would be an absolute monster.

Ya, I think with this looking to be another lost bottom dweller season and even more muddy waters as to where they go from here, they're officially in uncharted territory and the likelihood has increased. They had to at least trend up this year I think for this to go anywhere hopeful. I don't think just running it back next year is a reasonable option and anybody they move needs to have positive value to be able to try to re-tool. Trading guys like Chabot and Norris aren't going to accomplish that with likely little coming back in return.

Seeing him quit on the team by taking stupid penalties against the Nucks makes me ready to move on from him. Fights do not correlate with winning games, its old school nonsense that needs to go.

Ideally you keep a high hitting scoring winger, but as long as he has the C, there will be no accountability for him taking stupid penalties and not staying focused on winning the game by playing hockey. Can't strip the C because he's probably not mentally mature enough to handle it.

Seeing Hughes and the rest of the Nucks play keep away with the puck was so demoralizing.
