The Senators owner didn't either... He did a sell off... the rebuild well here we are

I think the Sens chose Redden over Chara did they not... Chara said he wanted to stay Chiarelli swooped in and signed him
That was not what I recall from my reading. Chara wanted more $$$ and might also have wanted to leave for other reasons.

I'm quite sure Brady will be a pro regardless of what happens & keep his opinions to himself although this new generation are much quicker to express themselves since players have a lot more power today. And he is a good enough player that every team in the NHL would want him on their team. People are human, they have feelings when it comes to some things like friends, maybe he will accept it & move on or maybe he will be like Chara when the Sens moved Hossa. Was Chara a Diva? Why did Boston make him their Captain after the incident?
I doubt Brady will be cut up about Norris if the team is going late in the playoffs and is a contender. If they continue to be a bottom feeder he'll probably want out. And I can't blame him for it.

They were offered decent money, just wanted more.
Look at Karlsson for example, Bruce said was offered 10 million, or maybe 1-200k more as a last offer.
Karl took the 11.5 million. He was still offered a fair dollar, Sens got lucky he didn’t take the 10, or a hair over.
Wise or not, the lack of trade protection being offered made that offer not a real offer. It was either a PR exercise or they weren't being honest with themselves thinking it was a serious offer. Maybe a little of both. He said himself he thought they'd just trade him if he signed anyways and no player in his position would ever accept.

Do we even really have any knowledge of the Brady/Josh relationship outside of Pierre using it to justify the Karlsson trade and living together for a season? I've seen more bits of his relationships with Robert Thomas and Johnny Gaudreau over the years. 'Besties' is a childish concept anyways. Business is business.

They didn't offer Karlsson a NMC, and he already had a fractured relationship with ownership. Without a NMC, any offer was a farce.

The entire thing was a farce. Dorion claimed he couldn't talk to Karlsson until July 1st. As if it was tampering or something. Pierre Lebrun went as far as to get confirmation from Bill Daly that they could talk, they simply couldn't make any agreement binding by sending it into the league until July 1st.

You also have to consider that at the time Karlsson was a legitimate top 5-10 player in the league. Show me an equivalent player who didn't get a NMC. Let alone, an equivalent player signing with an owner/team with the reputation ours had at the time. Why is a player giving the Senators the benefit of the doubt? It makes no sense.

I highly doubt they expected him to sign. It was an optics thing.

Hope Edmonton gains a little confidence from that.

Funny thing I noticed was that the bulk of the pesty aggression from Florida comes from Matthew, Bennett, and Ekblad.

Three players who drive the physical angle makes the rest of team play more aggressive.

We need catalysts, and we already have probably the most valuable physical catalyst in the league in Brady. If Grieg, Ostapchuk, Kastelic and Kleven can lead the way on the physicality and pushing boundaries side of things we’re in a good starting off point.

What’s funny is that Florida doesn’t actually have toughness to back the pestiness, they just happen to be playing a team that has fewer tough players and zero guys who will fight.

Our team has potential with some key players in place who have playoff transferable skills on paper. We need more work, but shit, watching the playoffs this year it’s plain to see what’s needed league wide.

Now is the best time to trade Tkachuk, when he is overvalued to maximize the return. There will be a Lindros like package coming back. It will make Ottawa instantly a playoff team even with a bad coach. We will get a Tier 1 goalie and a Tier 1 forward. A blue chip prospect+draft picks. It has to be just a starting point.
The days of those kinds of packages are done. Salary cap is just way too tight everywhere

I don’t mean any sexual innuendo by this post.

If we trade him, it will be a deal closer to 1 for 1 or 1 for 2, with a legitimate star player coming back for him, and then maybe 1-2 additional pieces. They aren't going to risk a getting an all futures based package, where 5 years down the line, they could end up with nothing.

The Eichel trade is an example of this. Buffalo got back Alex Tuch. So even if Krebs and the 1st never materialize, they at least got a star player with term back. Keep in mind, they were dealing from a position of weakness with Eichel's injury and unconventional choice of surgeries.

The other Tkachuk trade was very unconventional because of the salary cap. I don't think the league will see another trade like that again. Florida basically said we can't afford to extend both Weegar and Huberdeau if we acquire Tkachuk, so take them both as proxies of value and you figure it out. If both of them didn't sign, Calgary likely would have traded them for multiple 1st round picks and ended up with a larger return in futures than any of the teams on Tkachuk could have reasonably given them.

So on paper it looks like Matthew was traded for a lot at the time, Huberdeau+Weegar (both eventually with extensions) and a 1st - but you have to consider that player value isn't static, it's dynamic. Different teams value pieces differently based on their unique situations. In the situation Florida was in, Huberdeau and Weegar did not have a lot of value to them if they brought in Tkachuk, because they would have had to trade them right away anyways.

The Matthew trade is an example of what we would be dealing with if Brady's NMC kicked in. Matthew didn't have a NMC on paper, but he did in application because he didn't have to sign with any team. His ability to agree to play ball and extend with teams acted as a NMC. We saw the same thing with Debrincat, except he was a dork who only wanted to sign with 1 team to his own Detriment. At least Matthew Tkachuk gave Calgary the 4-5 meme teams that always come up (Tampa, Florida, Dallas, etc).

That sounds about right. Seemed like he tracked that whole scenario pretty much perfectly for him to get paid and get out of town, and I thought they'd tried long term with him and he declined.

They did get a 1st and Cole Schwindt out of the deal too, so there was some form of "futures" involved, it wasn't just Hubs and Weegs. When they inevitably flip Weegar, that will likely be another 1st +.

1) It's overblown how bad that deal was knowing that Tkachuk was demanding a trade, and willing to sign long term with 1 organization on a discount. If Huberdeau hadn't been signed, didn't completely flop, and was flipped at the deadline, it'd be a solid haul. It's basically the immediate cratering of Hubs that skewered the deal. Then they doubled down with Kadri who also had a down year. No matter how many times people say Calgary should have been rebuilding, the owner was not allowing that mandate, at least at that time, so an all futures deal wasn't an option for Treliving.

2) I disagree about Weegar. He's such a bargain for what he is on that AAV that it basically cancels out the too long part. That's a very good value contract for their best d man. He's one of the most desirable dman contracts out there that might actually be available imo.
1) You had a 24 year old, about to enter year 7. No major injury in his past. Scored 104 points and was a +57. Hubbie was 28. So 4 years older. In a world that is, Prime Years: 22-30. That alone should have dictated the terms. Like for like. A 24 year old for a 23-25 year old and similar performance.

Now you add Hubbie was 1 year from RAF. You sign and trade Tkachuk, thus locking him up for 8 years at 9.5 M. Hubbie gives you one season at 5.9 AAV (6.2 actual) and then smokes you for 10.5 M. MTkachuk. will be 32 when it ends and at 9.5 M.. J.H will be 38 and at 10.5 M. Brad T. did not have the common sense to exchange like for like contract wise.

Even if Huberdeau had played well. Calgary piled on, one mistake after another.

Brad T. needed to get Barkov or get #1's.. at least 2 of them. . Maybe 2 no.1's and a Sam Reinhart. Leave Hubbie, he would have become someone else's problem.

Hubbie had been in the league 10 years and had accumulated 21 playoff points. Hubbie is your classical "I am in the league for a good time, not a long time, and to enjoy myself and not work". The guy was living in Florida enjoying himself. Google him and add girlfriend.. He was at one time dating a "social Influencer". Shows more skin than a stripper.

By comparison the Tkachuk's are married to plain Janes. They keep their private life quiet and good luck if you are going to find risqué pictures of them.

2) Tomaito/ Tomaato. No right or wrong. I believe they will hurt in years 7 and 8. But the cap will be large and he will be a lesser pinch.

Well, he was leaving regardless and by all accounts appeared to have picked one destination, so at that point you're just doing the best you can negotiating with one team. There's no way they would have ever gotten Barkov no matter how long they held out or how hard they tried. Barkov is arguably the more valuable piece as it is and Florida never would have found the success they have if they made a swap like that.

I would argue Tkachuk looked pretty lacklustre in the playoffs prior to moving over to Florida just the same. They got smacked down by Edmonton and Matt was a non factor that series. He's made his playoff reputation in Florida.

And maybe Weegar has a couple bad years on the tail end of that contract, but that's pretty common, and like I said, I believe that's built in to him being underpaid on AAV by a decent margin. I'd take him very happily and his contract without a second thought. He'd be our best d man on day 1 besides maybe Sanderson if he takes another step forward.

He's looked pretty lacklustre in the playoffs this year. Something like one goal in the past 15 games...feels almost like Florida is winning in spite of him, which is a pretty stunning turnaround from last year when it was basically the Matthew Tkachuk Show.

nothing weird dude.

Family history, personal life is all part of the picture. It shows you who a person is and what his priorities are.

Most of the greatest winners all came from good stock, married well and live conservative lives.

Take away Babe Ruth and many superstars are from otherwise conservative environments.
Lou Gehrig.. ultra conservative. And was the real reason behind the 1920-1940 Yankee success
Jackie Robinson.. salt of the earth. His wife, incredible. As classy as can be.

OJ Simpson.. Dad a transvestite prostitute, the Browns are real questionable.. we see!!!!
Aaron Hernandez.. questionable upbringing.. checkered personal life

Remember Ottawa D man Dell Zotto.. See him and a porn star. Now tell me if Ottawa should have touched him.

And so on.

Now off the field.. see Obama, the good and see Trump, the not so good!!!! See Nixon and see Carter. See Ghandi, MLK and Mandela.. Now see Hitler, Stalin and Putin.

Sidney Crosby.. I was so sure he was gay and would come out after his career. Then my wife shows me a picture of him and his partner. While a model, all pictures of them are ultra conservative. Greatest winner the last 20 years.

If you want to know everything about a pro athlete, see his family life, see his personal life and see how much skin his partner shows.

The more you see of her, the less you want to see of him. The more outlandish his family is, the less you want him.

Read up on Bobby Ryan and his Mom and Dad!!!!!! Now see his performance and his troubles.

Dude, I am 60. I need a 22 year old who makes a stripper blush, about as bad as I need for more arthritis to set in.

Be careful of what you wish for and what you priorities. You start chasing a "Baddie" and you risk getting one. Now you will find out, why they are "baddies"!

If a woman shows more tits than Dolly Parton, move on. You will be doing yourself a favour.

Hopefully Staios understands what Dorion and so many poor GMs don’t, never trade for a player whose gf/wife shows her tits!

Beech has cracked the code.

This is good advice that the kids should relate to, you want a wife who is more like Greta Garbo, and not someone has been Barney Mugging with all the gents by the time the two of you go steady.

I'm only teasing with the older references.

Both Andersson & Markstrom have NTC & could nix this deal but with this deal Calgary would move up in the draft, move out their expensive $6 mil goalie & acquire a top pairing LD. They have two other good RD & can afford to move Andersson & if they could acquire a good UFA LD would have the makings of a decent top 4.

Ott with one deal acquire a #1 goalie (although older) & an experience good top 4 RD & hopefully have given themselves an opportunity to be a playoff team next season. They also acquire another 2nd rd pick which they can use to select a good player in the top 41 picks or use it to move up to get the player they want. Chychrun also has a NMC & may not want to go to Calgary.

To Calgary: 7th OA, Korpisalo G, Chychrun LD, Joseph LW/RW & ($11.550 mil)
To Ottawa: 9th OA, 41st OA, Markstrom G, Andersson RD ($10.550 mil) - difference $1 mil

Sign UFAs - Sprong RW (3 yrs @ $4 mil)

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Stutzle - Pinto ($6) - Sprong ($4)
Ostapchuk - Greig - Giroux
Kelly - Kastelic - MacEwan - $51 mil

- IMO top nine has improved with the addition of Sprong RW & Ostapchuk C/LW
- Sprong adds more offence & Ostapchuk can play C or LW, the PK & good defensively

Chabot - Andersson
Sanderson - Zub
Kleven - JBD/Hamonic - $28 mil

- IMO the defence has improved with the addition of Andersson RD
- Hamonic is in his last yr & will likely share the 3rd pairing RD spot with JBD

Markstrom - Forsberg/Sogard - $9 mil = $88 mil
- IMO the goaltending has improved with the addition of Markstrom G
- Forsberg will be in his last yr & I expect that next season Sogaard will push for that spot

A healthy Norris could be a 50 - 60 pt player on this roster, or more.
It’s actually better for Calgary imo.
I do like a Rasmussen though.
