Yeah, but that was just normal UFA stuff. It wasn't engineering yourself to a location as either an RFA or non-FA. It's different.

How exactly is one gonna choose their destination coming off ELC as an RFA??? Maybe I don't understand what you're saying then.

I said it when the "rebuild" started. There's no rebuild in Ottawa-land as long as Melnyk is there.
Oh, kid broke out and wants big money? Sucks for the fans, better ship him out for guys at the end of front loaded contracts and picks.

I will eat crow if it ends up being the Sens preparing a steal of a contract, but I doubt it.
Eugene Melnyk and Robert Nutting are best friends.

If Brady turned down 8x8, then he’s obviously no interested in a long-term deal. That’s a higher cap hit than his brother.

Unless the salary structure is the issue, which is very possible.

On an island
Ottawa wants to lock him up. Brady wants to wait and see (just like his brother did in Calgary)
That is why this deal is taking long. Ottawa might be cracking if the alleged 8x8 is true. Overpayment at his current state by 1-2M.

He never turned down 8x8, since we don’t know he was offered it.
Freidman said since Chabot was offered 8x8, I think Brady would be offered 8x8. So Friedman is speculating a number.

I know he's young, and I know he does "other things" on the ice.

However, this is a guy with seasons of 45, 44, and 53 points (last season pro-rated over 82 games). You're telling me this player is going to get 8M per season?

In what world does he deserve that kind of money? Unless the Sens and fans are banking on him taking a few steps forward offensively, 8M per seems like a drastic overpayment.

Keep in mind he's 21 with a massive frame he's growing into. I do expect him to put upwards of 70 points in a full season. But you're right right NOW he's not worth 8m, I think the Sens are banking he will be worth that though.

Although 8M is on the higher end of what I'd like, you're paying him based on future potential on a long term deal, not just what he's done so far. He's putting up 50pt a season playing without any help, Ottawa's team is very young, inexperienced, and at the very beginning of their maturity and development curve. Give him a legitimate centre, a bit of time to build some chemistry, and another year or two to further improve his game, and he'll be a consistent 65pt+ power forward with strong leadership qualities, a warrior any team would love to have. People forget he's just turning 22 this month. I'd like him at 8x$7m, but even 8x$8 is still fine. Anything more is an overpayment. But he'll definitely get his bag, I just hope it's fair value and gets done quickly so it doesn't become a distraction when the season starts.

yeah was wondering where that offer came from

I would imagine he wants something like Aho ended up getting.. shorter term.. he doesn't wanna get stuck in a perpetual rebuild

and I don't blame him

Again, no one has said anywhere Melnyk doesn't want to pay Brady.
like I noted earlier...not many players want to spend their career in a perpetual rebuild. I would imagine it's not so much the amount being offered, it's the term

I get it that you're a SENS fan and don't wanna see one of your best players get into a contract squabble. don't blame you a bit

That's exactly what it is. He wants bridge, we want max term. We all get it. That's not Melnyk not wanting to pay Brady.

Like father like son like son. They want millions more then their worth. Probably wants 9 million on the last year so he is qualified at over 9 million. He's not worth it just like his brother isn't worth it.

That’s only for a 2-3 year deal, and then could go to arbitration anyways.
Anything after 4 years , your buying UFA years.

I love when people think that hockey players who get paid millions care about every last penny, and don't want governments to use any of it for:

Infrastructure
Public Programs
Parks
Education
Environment

Etc.

And that every factor in their playing career follows a libertarian creed.
They get all of that in the US while keeping more of their money.
