It's interesting that Daigle is at the top of that list, if only his heart was into playing, he could have been a real good player for the Sens.

Brady Tkachuk is the kind of player I have wanted Ottawa to get for yrs & he is only going to get better. Paul has really impressed as well, if Smith keeps using him for faceoffs & as a very good defensive forward he could turn into a very good player for this team. Also from what we have seen from Logan Brown he is another guy who should play a strong top six role for this team.

Ottawa also has three very good young guys coming who have size, speed, skill & scoring ability in Belleville & should be here by next season permanently in Formenton, Norris & Batherson. That would be an interesting line.

"Brady Tkachuk really managed to get under the Rangers skin last night, drawing four penalties. With those four added in, he leads the league in drawn penalties so far this season. Every other team in the Eastern conference is going to hate him and it will be absolutely amazing." SilverSevenSens

Brady adds a lot more than just point totals.

don't other good players also draw lots of penalties and are generally hated by other fanbases? i don't really see this as a big plus.

It's not a big plus because other players perform this valuable service?

As long as he doesn't start taking them with the same frequency.

Isn't Drake's problem that he doesn't have speed?

It seems to me like people interpreted "most NHL ready" at the draft as "lowest ceiling". Not sure why. Power forwards tend to take more time to develop. The sky is the limit for Brady. I said he would be a top 15 scorer at some point in his career, and he's starting to show why.

stats from last year:

NHL.com - Stats

you brought up a good point about not taking them with the same frequency. last year brady had about the same penalty minutes given than drawn, 1.27/60 to 1.32/60.

This year brady has drawn 11 penalties which is hardly significant looking at the rest of the rankings, so i don't see this ability as something that would offset some of his other qualities.

Is it? He looked really fast at every development camp I have been too & in the rookie tournaments I have seen & in the NHL, he's not as slow as Stone, but he isn't Formenton either. Maybe it's that first step or two, but I expect that if he can spend some time in Ottawa this summer with the power skating coach & the figure skating coach that should help him a lot. I think he just has to find his groove at the NHL level, get on a line that compliments his skillset & put a couple of cheap ones in to get him going. He's pretty good at full speed & crafty with the puck & Ottawa needs another scorer & he could be that top six RW player they need.

I also think he needs to add another dimension of edgyness (if that is a word) to his game to get him more involved & maybe crash the net occasionally. If players feel they are involved in a game it helps their confidence a great deal & sometimes it starts with a hit, a fight, or a crash into the goalie, something. I like him a lot as a player, but like Paul could take a little while longer to take that next step in his development, IMO he is very close now. We'll see.

And this year?

2.78/60 vs 1.51/60.

He's drawn 11 minor penalties and taken 6. That's 46 seconds a game of extra PP time that he's giving us right now.

small sample size right now, obviously lol, i don't think its sustainable looking at previous year's data

and it's per 60 minutes of his ice time, so it would be 13.8 seconds per game

i'll remember to keep track of it though

I know it's a small sample size. Hopefully he can continue this though.

Really my point is that he shouldn't necessarily be judged by his first year on how many penalties he actually takes... Moreso that he doesn't usually take lazy penalties, it's more his hard nosed style play... they're more acceptable

He's been carrying the puck a little more lately. Giving me hope that he's more of a Todd Bertuzzi than a Simmonds or Holmstrom.

His circles in game in the ozone is good.. some aspects are very good. IMO he still needs work in the dzone and he needs work in the neutral zone. It will all get better with experience

Leading the league in scoring chances and high-danger scoring chances.

Just taking a look at how he ranks in some stats tracked by Natural stat trick out of 594 skaters with 100+ mins of 5v5.

Goals/60: 28th
First assists/60: 110th
Shots /60: 1st
individual xG/60: 1st (by a fair bit at 1.7 with the next closest at 1.3)
iSCF/60: 1st
iHFCF/60: 1st
Rush attempts/60: 2nd (I was surprised by this one)
Rebounds created: 6th
Hits: 29th

On-ice
xGF/60: 1st
SCF/60: 4th
HDCF/60: 2nd

Seems like he's going to be a fancy stats darling...
