Tribute Brady Tkachuk Appreciation Thread

Easy to crap on a guy who has a large personality. But for the 9 years before the Olympics he was the guy people identified with. Now that he is gone let's see what fallout there is with existing players. Also the haters can go back to realizing Ottawa is a place to be avoided if you've got a choice.

The players seem to be popping champagne bottles.

Team leaking that the dressing room was not pushing for him to stay is absolutely the right move. I would probably be a bit more vicious but we start here
So the PR spin has already started from this sorry ass regime. What a breath of fresh air from the Melnyk era. Very refreshing to see nothing has changed. I was getting worried we'd actually start being taken seriously around the league.

We'll probably never find out.

We never really found out what happened with Heatley.
Oh, but the rumour mill will definitely fill in the void and shape the narrative to influence the gullible fanbase. Apparently the new crew in charge has already kicked it off it seems. At least they appear to have game planned to get ahead of this to shape public opinion, regardless of how true or false it may be. How nice.

Assuming the Renaud Lavoie tweet in French was accurate... at least it seems like the fallout won't be massive and immediate from the players.

The real problem is if the team misses the playoffs substantially and then misses again you will start to lose players like Stutzle and Sanderson.

Ottawa isn't going to compete on marketing opportunities or lowest taxes so we typically need to commit early or for more money or for more years... some combination of that (one or more).

That is how they kept Brady Tkachuk around up until now. It's also why they have Stutzle and Sanderson on deals. Players like security.

So, is your take that this is all the organization's fault for not making Tkachuk feel at home enough here?

A reality of having any random American player is that due to the demographics of the NHL they are more likely to have voted Republican than Democrat. Hell, there are probably lots of Canadian players who would have voted Republican if they had US citizenship.

Everyone is entitled to their personal preferences, but I'm not going to hold it against the player unless they actively start advocating for Trump (ie like Ovechkin actively advocating for Putin). There were over 70 million Americans who voted for Trump. I don't think hating every single one of them is going to lead to the end of MAGA.
Don’t use logic man

PR spins is the standard.

It was always going to be tough next year with Toronto re-tooling and Florida getting healthy. Depending on what happens with the rest of the off-season, could be quite a challenge for us to make the post-season, even if we had kept Tkachuk.

The timing is poor from a marketing point of view with trying to build back the fanbase after Melnyk drove a big chunk of them away.

They're going to need the novelty of a new arena as soon as possible, which is a hilarious thing to say in this town.

No, for not conveying clearly that they are serious about contending and showing the urgency to do it.

Personally, I don't think there's anything management could have done to convince him otherwise, given the state of the team and the assets left by Dorion.

They pulled the trigger while one of the four teams he wants to play for still had their top picks available to avoid the uncertainty of next season.

And that's without giving credence to any kind of rumors that he already had his foot out the door and the dressing room knew it.

It is a tough loss. He's a good top 6 player and we have what 3 left.

His finding it hard to get motivated when the team was fighting for its life after the Olympics and what 10 days with his douche bag brother in his ear was a little much.

It was in the stars... he didn't want to stay ...move him. Its good it came out now and its good it did not create a circus for the past few weeks

I would have liked a warm body included with the picks even if it was Evan Rodrigues

May the blue bird of happiness fly up his nose

Personally, I absolutely think they could have but never intended to do so or showed they are serious about it. And that's the message the entire team and the fanbase has received up until now.
