Tribute Brady Tkachuk Appreciation Thread

He was very good and quite unique when he cared. But things were never the same when he returned from the 4 Nations tournament. People might laugh, but I think the reaction he got from his 'home' crowd in the wake of that spectacle planted the initial seed.

He was completely checked out last season. Down the stretch, in must-win game after must-win game, he never really seemed into it.

I think there was kind of a missed opportunity with this player. The Senators never really leaned into building around him or in his image.
We didn’t lean into nor build around Brady? Huh?

Dude what nonsense is this.

A relatively unique skillset for this team and a guy who could dominate the opposition at times.

Entertaining player who helped justify the cost of admission. Didn't back down from anyone, could get the crowd on their feet with a big hit or a big goal.

Led the team in goals and points injured in the playoffs two years ago.

I think his no-show this season against Carolina will make it easier to say goodbye.

Brady has a good legacy in Ottawa, he did so much good for the franchise when we needed it. what a pick, once of the best picks in franchise history

Good luck to him off the ice, hope Kleven sends him to outer space on the ice

I don’t think he could have scripted a worse final year to go out on.

Team progressed enough that people will mostly feel he didn’t have good reason to abandon ship (esp since we lost to the eventual cup champion), so much nonsensical drama via his podcast, the post Olympic nonsense, his coach admitting he was a little checked out, a poor playoff performance.

Just took a sledgehammer to his legacy. Oh well. Good riddance.

I’m devastated. He could of had a legacy greater than Alfie.

But it was obvious he was not invested here. And it’s sad and it pains me.

He will do well in Florida and all things considered we got a great return for him.

I wish him well (kind of, it’s still raw and hurts) but we now have a chance to completely change the dynamics of the team.

Team leaking that the dressing room was not pushing for him to stay is absolutely the right move. I would probably be a bit more vicious but we start here

lmao it’s fully in his right to not want to re-sign here in 2 years but what are we supposed to appreciate him for? He got paid handsomely, we paid money to watch him, and he couldn’t get a point in the playoffs.

It’s very easy to move on from players if you’re not parasocial about it. They’re getting paid to lose games, we’re doing the opposite.

I wish he was still here but what can we do?

Brady benefited from joining the organization at a time of complete, utter dysfunction.

But when you look at what he contributed, it's very little winning.

One of the worst captains we've had.

Well, some of the lack of winning may have had a little something to do with the organization being in a state of complete utter dysfunction.

Link?

I am shocked as I was thinkkng he would grow up, but he never did.

He let politics and the media determine the narrative for him in Ottawa. His unwillingness to diffuse the 51st state rhetoric was the beginning of the end. It would have taken 2 sentences and then he was off the hook.

You could tell he wasn't leaning into being the C of a Canadian team. I'm glad it's over quick and didn't drag on. I am also happy it's a halfway decent return.

I will be buying tickets for a BOO Brady night, much like I did when Whanny Cheatley left town. Lemme know if you want in.

No doubt.

But that has been turned around the last 3 years. And I don't think Brady ever fully bought in. At a time that everyone would have thought Brady would have relished and stepped up, he wilted.

People should have clued in as soon as Green told the media that he had to have a 1 on 1 meeting with Tkachuk to get him "engaged" during the stretch run last year.

Legacy is a funny thing. His won't be good here.

I don't watch every podcast or follow players on social media, and I also am very against Trump and MAGA.

I don't understand where all the claims of him being some huge MAGA guy come from outside of speculation though, I don't remember ever seeing any political comments from him other than going to the White House after the Olympics. I feel like the politics thing was largely driven by fans on social media rampantly speculating.

If he was actively promoting MAGA and/or other hateful policies or ideologies I would get it. But when he hasn't really said anything I think it unfair to make assumptions based off his brother or his visiting the White House.

And why do they want Robertson so bad? Who’s also American and also very likely MAGA. These people are unable to think straight

They’re pretty good.

There's a tendency to character assassinate a guy when he just leaves so I'm going to be a little patient to see if the whole story comes out.
Easy to crap on a guy who has a large personality. But for the 9 years before the Olympics he was the guy people identified with. Now that he is gone let's see what fallout there is with existing players. Also the haters can go back to realizing Ottawa is a place to be avoided if you've got a choice.

A reality of having any random American player is that due to the demographics of the NHL they are more likely to have voted Republican than Democrat. Hell, there are probably lots of Canadian players who would have voted Republican if they had US citizenship.

Everyone is entitled to their personal preferences, but I'm not going to hold it against the player unless they actively start advocating for Trump (ie like Ovechkin actively advocating for Putin). There were over 70 million Americans who voted for Trump. I don't think hating every single one of them is going to lead to the end of MAGA.
