Brad Treliving is doing a great job.

While for the record I do think the Leafs will end up advancing out of the round.

That said, if for whatever reason they don't AND Marner leaves in UFA it's not inconceivable that the team has a new GM by the fall. Though the safe bet is Tre will be given another full season to prove his vision.

But a GM whose been signing 30+ year olds to term centric deals isn't going to oversee a rebuild

You need to stop the fantasy of a rebuild.

No matter how much "fans" like you want one.

As long as Matthews is here there won't be one.

Get over the idea.

Look I'm not going to sit here and say I was fully sold on Patches when he was brought here because I wasn't, I don't think anybody was, How could you be with the injury issues he's had?

But if Treliving didn't bring him in he wouldn't have been in the lineup tonight and WITH THE GAME ON THE LINE HE ENDED IT!!!!!!!!!!

And let's not forget about Domi because he gets A LOT f hate.

But the reality is he scored the winner in game 2 he set up the winner tonight.

He he was CLUTCH in round 1.

Said it August 9th 2023 and will say it again

The Dubas Fan Boi Club was confidently predicting a tough battle in the first round - - and privately hoping for an upset.

After game 1, the narrative was “advanced stats prove Toronto was lucky to win”

After game 2, the narrative changed to “just some random bounces that went Toronto’s way.”

After game 3, the narrative has now become “this 3-0 lead shouldn’t be a surprise, Toronto is a much more experienced and far superior team.”

After game 4, the narrative was one of quiet optimism at a comeback for the ages but mostly just thankful that Toronto didn’t get the sweep.

After game 5, the narrative was “here we go again, same old same old” and the Dubas Fan Boi Club was the happiest it’s been since Pittsburgh acquired Erik Karlsson.

After game 6, the narrative was non existent because the Dubas Fan Boi Club has disappeared faster than a fart in a fan factory.

I don't want a rebuild, nor do I advocate for one in that earlier post. I even explicitly say the team isn't going to rebuild

You should read things closer before replying.

Any stragglers still arguing this defence he is responsible for isn't easily the best we've had? Unbelievably good this series. OEL is a steal. Benoit is a revelation. Carlo is money. Tanev is the smartest, coolest customer, I've seen back there. Big, hard, effective. Love our D.

lmao nah

Tanev, Carlo and OEL are just so much less stressful to watch on the ice than the other piles of shite we've had to deal with.

It isn't the best ever, but it's very good with Rielly being useless. I'd still take good Rielly, Brodie, Gio, and Muzzin

Give Brad full credit. He solved the D and the G issue.

What a revelation Tanev has been. Has brought a tonne of stability to the back end. Something this team has been lacking for years.

The last time I think we had a d-man of this type who was so steady and reliable was Yushkevich.

Id take this over that top 4 all day long. I'd also take our bottom pair in a heartbeat. Benoit played the third most minutes last night, he's rolling all the pairs, another new wrinkle. We've never had a 5 like OEL. Tanev over Muzzin, McCabe over Gio, who wasn't anywhere near his prime here and Carlo is as steady as Brodie, on PK as well. To me the 6 are easily the best.

Patches was such a hunch play and in Game 6 all he had were amazing looks including the series winner. Not sure if he’s just a one time use kind of player or how his health will hold up, but for one night at least he filled that kin’s of Verhaeghe of simple shoot and score no frills role.

The thing that really annoyed me about the previous regime and Jake Muzzin is they’d always gush about how he’s this and that and so great such a stabilizing force. Yeah that’s wonderful. Why not stock up on another Muzzin type Dman. Why not 3? Well Treliving more or less identified that and put 4 guys back there.
