The only reason this thread is even going is because of two sour grapes posters that aren’t over the fact the last loser fired GM that won jack shit (sorry, a single playoff series in 5 years to be very technical!) is getting a masterclass in how to actually assemble a hockey team.

Congrats are in order obviously to some degree, most could see this was an improvement as early as last season with the priority being placed on the non-bean-counting qualities that make good teams playoff worthy.
You couldn’t really have done much worse than the last GM and coach combination with as much as they had.
It was all very simple from the get-go but instead the wheel tried to get re-invented and spun on the same spot for five years.

Tre is obviously better than Dubas and Dubas for sure made his share of mistakes like absolutely every GM does. I don't understand the raging hate boner so many of you have. It's almost cult like. Wheres this hate for Burke and Nonis? guys who traded our futures for literal trash and missed the playoffs for 10 years. People act like we had tons of success before Dubas that he ruined. We went from 10 years no playoffs to 7 years in a row with first Lou (with Dubas mentoring) and then Dubas. I get that we struggled once there, but we were still a good team. Before you even start the "dUmBaSs iNhErItEd tHe TeAm rFoM LoU" crap. Lou said in his FIRST press conference sitting beside Dubas at the table "if he's not running this team in 3 years I didn't do my job". If you want to blame someone blame Lou. He was brought in specifically to mentor and prepare Dubas to take over which after 3 years Dubas did and Lou left.
No doubt Tre has built a great team for us. But ask Calgary fans how good of as GM he is. Bet you get a different answer, more like your opinion of Dubas.

On offense : He signed veteran free agent Max Domi in the summer of 2023. He signed veteran free agents Steve Lorentz and Max Pacioretty last summer . Lorentz also won the cup with the Florida panthers last year, he has a championship ring and experience. traded for veteran Scott Laughton at the deadline last march. All in all, He only brought 4 forwards on the team for the bottom six lines.
On defense, he signed veteran free agents Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Chris Tanev to expensive and longterm contracts last summer, he traded for veteran Brandon Carlo at the deadline, and he signed the young unproven defenseman Simon Benoit as a free agent in The summer of 2023 during his very first months as a GM. 4/6 of our top 6 defensive unit were brought by Treliving.
He signed free agent and 2024 Stanley cup champion goaltender Anthony Stolarz last summer in free agency. And so far it paid massive dividends. The Last time a free agent signing of a goaltender by Toronto was this impactful was when Maple Leafs president/GM Ken Dryden signed star goaltender Curtis Joseph in July 1998. And four years later in July 2002, when GM Pat Quinn signed free agent and Stanley cup champion Ed Belfour.
Woll was drafted under the Lou Lamoriello regime 9 years ago.
Obviously he had more impact and influence on the construction of the defense/goaltending. And When it comes to offense, the main characters (Marner, Tavares, matthews, nylander) and big skilled complementary players on the first two scoring lines like knies and mcmann were already on the team before he arrived here. But he still improved the Leafs forward group by injecting experience, secondary scoring, grit, attitude, physicality and two-way play into the two bottom six lines. Lorentz, domi, pacioretty and Laughton all make our team Better and tougher to play against in their own ways.

Personally, the reason why I dislike Kyle so much is, it was so easy to turn what he inherited into a very good team that could make a decent run every year. Very easy. He had the draft capital, the cap space, the core and the prospects.
In fact, 90% of this board would've had to put all their effort into messing it up as badly as Kyle did. And we'd still not quite reach those levels.

He had it all when he took the reins, couldn't be a more enviable position. He had the Marleau contract, the only bad thing he inherited. I'd add, people wouldn't be talking about the narcissist anymore if his lame disciples weren't on a jihad against the new GM. It's the constant attempts to say we're worse, every move he makes, that requires a counter. It's been farcical for over a year now.
New guy has done good, and it's showing.
50% of our goaltending.
Woll was here LONG before Treliving.
But he did give him the extension.

I don't care what Flames fans have to say about Treliving, I'm judging him on the job he's done here, and the job he's done here has been fantastic.
How great would Jared McCann look right now at 2LW on a line with Tavares and Nylander……
…….. thankfully Dubass hung on to Hollsy for us ‘cuz, well, you know, stats and spreadsheets and stuff.
Treliving has a much better grasp on and focus on what the defence of a team needs to have, and it shows.

58% of Leafs goals in the series have been scored by the pampered entitled muskoka 5.0 beta losers to whom the clueless fake glasses rookie former GM committed over half our cap, effectively making it impossible to achieve any postseason success. 75% if you include Knies' goals.
