We picked up a big dman who will really help, and he is certainly worth a good 3rd round pick maybe 2nd on a great day. BUT. WE PAID WITH A VERY GOOD PROSPECT. AND A FIRST ROUND PICK.
We picked up a good old hometown boy, with experience, who replaced the 4th line center David Kamph. We may have to still pay Kampf but paying a mear 3rd round choice for this experience down the middle player appears to have benefit and certainly adds depth. But. WE PAID WITH A VERY GOOD PROSPECT AND A FIRST ROUND DRAFT CHOICE.
In one day, we emptied our minor system, gave us the day off on draft day and we don't have to listen to the talking heads and the endless drivel about who we should choose.
What an incredible waste, what desperation. How sad Treliving performance has been.

I don't think there is anything saying they haven't talked, only that neither side would talk about this openly during the season. Both Marner and Treliving said that in September.

If we believe reports, the team did drag their heels at least at the start (and maybe did so with good reason), but then we get into the season and Mitch is not only great again (as expected), he carries us through a time with some pretty significant injuries and fits into a system people said he couldn't fit into. We still can't get it done and now he holds even more cards than he did in September. Treliving has done some great things, but he handled both this situation and the Nylander situation pretty terribly. Not only has Mitch been great for us, he was great for Team Canada, and the cap is going up. It's about the worst situation for the team trying to get him for anything of value. Now you have a comparable that is if Rantanen signed in Toronto, it would've had to be ~13.5 million. Disaster class of negotiating by the Leafs on this one.

False he was not great for team Canada he had a great gold medal game and he had the over time 3 on 3 goal he was playing good without matthews being a power play merchant but he was instrumental during that time I still think we hold all the cards Mitch stands to lose more than just his name in his hometowns history books I wouldn’t move off 12.5

We gave up a lot for a borderline 4th liner apparently. I hope Laughton channels his inner Corson or Tucker because he looks kind of useless out there now. The old built for playoffs line is our only hope with him. I like Carlo.

Is it enough to go along with Tanev, OEL and with Stolarz (and Woll) to make this team the best defensive playoff team we’ve had in the Matthews era?

Really miss that elite guy like O’Rielly that can move up and down the lineup. Our biggest hole this year. Laughton, Domi??? Not looking good.

No wonder the Leafs couldn’t get past the first round with such a pathetic supporting cast.

We will see what we get out of him... but he's consistently stepped up in the playoffs.

Stanley Cup Champion Stevie Lorentz has scored as many points this year as Noel Accari and Sam LaughAtMe have COMBINED.

Defensively responsible Lorentz is a +3, LaughAtMe is -11, Accari is a pitiful-20.

Lorentz is making $775k this year and those two no-talent scrubs are each making $2M.

In what galaxy would anyone prefer to have Accari or Sam LaughAtMe instead of Lorentz?

Eh, I'd hardly call myself a huge Tre fan, but Carlo is a legit second pairing D man who can play tough minutes. You ain't getting a guy like that for a 2nd or 3rd.

The Laughton trade is definitely one that I think is more reasonable to be skeptical of until proven otherwise if the player ever pulls it together

Neither one these guys gave a first round value IMHO. Certainly Carlo is superior and will be a big help...but we over paid
