Brad Treliving is doing a great job.

In thinking about it over the weekend, even if the team were to move on from Shanahan and Treliving who would the Replacement be ?

Very little out there, especially with experience. As most of the good potential hires are already with other teams, and I would be surprised if say someone like George McPhee as an example would be willing to leave Vegas.

If not for Marner's NMC, our GM Treliving would have acquired Mikko Rantanen the big powerforward in trade.

It would have been his team defining moment, but Marner prevented from happening by enforcing his no trade.

No, if Treliving had his choice Marner would be re-signed, that is what was reported.

His second choice was trading him.

You need to start following the team more.

That's great, but when two sides' numbers are pretty far apart (or else why wouldn't he be signed if he wanted him), it's really a moot point.

To me, it's just posturing, so either doesn't seem like the bad guy, particularly from the Marner/Ferris side.

If Marner wants to stay and Trelving wants him, then sign the Rantanen deal.

Marner doesn't want to negotiate in season, this is what was reported unless something has changed, are there even numbers?

Not saying anyone is in the right/wrong here, just going off reports.

I would say it’s more Shanahans and MLSE choice to re-sign Marner.

Just going off what Friedman was reporting... re-signing Marner would be one of Treliving's youngest signings, so it might not be his choice, but it is what Friedman said.

It doesn't appear that they have started negotiating, how could they be far apart?

I do agree they should have had this wrapped up by now.

Marner is unsigned, Tre asks him to waive (perhaps the second time), Marner is still unsigned, and this is all because Marner wants to remain a Maple Leaf and Tre wants to keep him in Toronto - even over a consensus top three winger in the league.

The connective tissue is simply that 'Marner doesn’t want to negotiate in season'.

Nevermind that he has a team that does this for him, it's just too distracting. They love each other too much.

I dunno, maybe Tre never had any interest in signing Marner from the beginning until the playoffs were done, and has kept an eye out for a possible return on asset, both last offseason and at the trade deadline.
