The one time a local home town UFA comes home and it ends up being a guy like Tavares who actively struggles come playoffs and has little intensity and captain like traits

It's crazy how many people I see that call McDavid the best player in the world and then say Tavares scores too much on the PP.

He was elite but he was getting a little too old. I think most agree they should have kept him one more year. With hindsight being 20-20, they should’ve gone with Hunter.

They’re too old, too slow, and too both.
Brodie was great in the regular season and was one of the worst players in the playoffs last season. If he wasn’t injured they’re in big trouble.
Gio…he had a nice career.
McCabe….3 rd pairing at best.

I think Brad should have fired Keefe. I do like quite a few of the free agent signings. I do believe he will sign Matthews. His poker skills will be needed with Willie Styles. I am of the opinion now, of NOT trading Styles. I think the Aho signing made 10 million impossible. Call his bluff. I LOVE Styles and want him to stay. I believe after next season the Leafs will make an offer very competitive with other teams. IF Willy chooses to leave, sad, but so be it. The free agent pool is supposed to be deep. Plenty of options. The issue is Brad having nightmares about what happened in Calgary and letting a talented player walk away with no compensation. Let those thoughts go Brad.

Still reserving judgement. Good off-seasons don’t mean much and there are two massive moves he has yet to make. Re-signing Matthews and Nylander will greatly sway his grade depending on how those contracts look.
Also, keeping Keefe is a massive ding against him as well. Maybe Sheldon proves us all wrong and come next spring he's not completely outcoached but until then Brad’s good moves are weighed down by keeping Keefe.

I'm reluctant to get too excited about a good offseason, but I'm happy with he's done. I wish he found a way to bring Schenn or Acciari back.
Ultimately he's going to be judged hard on what happens with Matthews and Nylander. Not a great position to be left in, but he knew that coming in.

Sure, but his hands are tied. He has no money and less available resources to trade, so how can upgrade the D this year?
Our D was perfectly fine. Our D is not responsible for Matthews and Marner being snake bitten in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

I think you will end being proven wrong when the GM inevitably overhauls the defense. I think at least 1/3rd of the defensive group that starts the season won't finish the season with the team.

McDavid still had 75 pts at even strength
The only snakes were AM and Mitchy. The slithered away from every physical player on the other team. Shots came from 10 feet farther, the old basketball guard play was laughable, they actually must have thought they got 3 points. When the ice was flooded they had to fix the ruts from quick skating moves as they turned around just inside the blue line. Maybe Reaves and company can help them grow a pair, but until they decided to give it up, we cannot win.
I have said before, go to YouTube watch Gilmore 1993. When Marner plays like that Stanley comes to Toronto.

Marner doesn’t have Gilmour’s skill set, so he can’t play like that.
But he certainly has super skills, what he and AM lacking is desire and fearlessness. Mitchys bride certainly doesn't want her cutie hurt. As for AM, I have only theories. BUT, few stars win with softer play. Jean Beliveau did, but he was a gentleman, didn't do the goal celebration nonsense that AM does. He was a gentleman and others got it. You cannot be arrogant showoff and gentleman too. The other team does not like having their nose rubbed in it. Mitchy is no better with his celebrations scoring goal #5 in a 6-1 victory and doing the celebration. If I am on the other teams bench, I will remember that.
So, without change 56 becomes 57, 58, 59 60? I hope Reaves etc have a big effect.

I don’t think players really care about celebrations.
Bottom line, they don’t have that skill set and they’ll likely never have it.
