Brad Treliving: 'DNA has to change'

Except for those 2 games I have to say The Leafs were right there with The Panthers. Game 3 was the killer.

I get they need changes but not a lot imo.

Leafs were a damn good team this year which is why it hurts so much worse. It always hurts but this team was different. I don't take it personally people pretend the Leafs suck, most of it is just memes I get that.

And it is leading to long overdue changes so I am hopeful that makes a difference in those big moments

I don't know what kind of changes they can make. They don't have much tradeable assets so UFAs is about all they got.

whatever they do it better be for guys that have been there before and wont disappear when the games get tight.

Then again, Im a Habs fan so im ok with them running it back too

We need the team build to change. No more 4 stars and nothing around them. Most fans want Marner and JT mostly replaced with several guys. That is the change I want to see.

If Tavares re-signs, most fans want it to be with a new role in mind. The players they bring in to fill those roles need to fit Berube's system. They have done well the last few years moving in that direction, need another push that way

And? What's the point. Shame on me for as a fan believing in my team (who so far has done the best against the Panthers anyways)?

I don't blame you for supporting your team and hoping they can win. What I do blame you and many other Leafs fans for, is continuously believing your town/team's media over and over again. You're trying to say Leafs fans knew something management didn't, despite believing the same BS (it's different this year... again) the media shoves down your throat every March. For every "I hate this core - we need to trade them!" comment, theres a thread where Leafs fans (you included) refused to 'trade' one of those players in proposals because of whatever excuse seemed valid that day. Ultimately, the fans avoided committing to trade proposals as much as management avoided real trades. Complaining is only valid if you're willing to do something about it.

The good news is the whole "This year is different" may actually be true this time because of real cap space. We'll have to see what they do, but there's a solid chance the team dynamic will at least be different this upcoming year.

In the vid Cheryl talks about McDrais passion for taking the next step after losing to Vegas, isn't it just possible some guys don't have it?

Maybe they're willing to workout in the summer, but not twoadays
Maybe they can watch film, but not hours of it
Maybe they feel bad after losing, but not THAT bad

When you look at the Toronto core, it's not as if they were a guaranteed dynasty or anything like that, but if their numbers didn't drop so drastically, they easily could've had a few ECF+ runs. The biggest thing nobody is talking about is the psychological damage of losing so much, it's not just a humiliation or two which everybody has, it's the fact that it has happened over and over again and none of them have ever come back with a vengeance, how can one honestly expect that same group to do anything different going forward?

People always talk about Ovechkin and Yzerman, but the flip side of that is Thornton and Huburdeau, two guys who were mega talents whose teams went on to win without them and they proceeded to do nothing on their own.

Is a 37 year old Toews really going to change anything?
Well I'd have my doubts he'd be an effective top 6 center. Heck I'm not even sure if he can be a third line center.

However, he would be a very valuable guy to have from a leadership point of view

They really need to add whatever sweetener is necessary to get rid of Rielly.

Their slow plodding D not being able to escape the pressure from Florida and help the offense transition is a big reason they couldn't score.
Is Florida's D that much more mobile? Apart from Jones and Forsling, Florida's D isn't exactly swift skating or offensively potent, either.

This is such a condesending reply not even sure what to say. Basically saying Leaf fans are idiots who repeat what media says. Meanwhile the media if you actually listened to it, not a single one for many years has been saying anything but they need to prove it. Same as Leaf fans.

It WAS different this year. The team was different in how they played, their maturity in situations where in the past things went wrong for them. They showed that in round 1 and they showed that at times against the Panthers.

They lost in game 7 of round 2 against the defending champs. This is not like they missed the playoffs. Change is needed to get over the hump, but it is insulting to suggest Leaf fans who watch their team haven't watched them evolve and get better over the years, especially under different GMs and coaches

I know but at least Dubas realized his mistake 2 years ago and Shanny said no when he tried to make a few trades and then let him go when he wanted to make a change in the core 4. Dubas is also NOT the one who gave out massive contracts to Matthews and Nylander after everyone knew it wouldn't work with that group.

I am not saying that Dubas was a great GM but you have to admit it's difficult to do your job if there is a EVP preventing you from doing it.
That’s true. How Shanahan has handled a general lack of passion and drive in the playoffs is a mystery. Seems counter his DNA as a player.

First two sentences say Leaf fans DON'T repeat what the Leaf media says.

Last two sentences say Leaf fans DO repeat what the Leaf media says.

:silly:
