This , Richards as a third line center would make him the best 3 C in the game . Richards being paid Crosby money to play 2C/3C makes him a buy out candidate now. No way can you have 7.5 M in cap for a guy to show up on r in awhile and against the Flyers who happen to be our punching backs

Richards isn't making Crosby money. Crosby makes more than him by ~2 million annually. On top of that, Crosby signed that contract WITHOUT UFA eligibility. Wait until he is a UFA....

My bad Richards real money is Crosby money and his cap of 6.7 M as a 2c 3 C is hard to swallow

But who cares if he is a 2c if he produces there? Is it such a bad thing to have him playing 2c and making the players around him better like he is capable of if Stepan has better chemistry with Nash?

Why is it a bad thing to have a 1a/1b?

It's not bad but if you could find a 50-60 point soft center that sucks on the PP for less than 6.7 M that certainly leaves more cap to have more balanced scoring . Paying Richards 6.7 in cap to be a difference maker night in and night out is good value . What we have gotten is not and I can't see it getting better.
He made a few plays against an even worse team than NY. Lets see how he plays against OTT who is fast in transition , plays a trap and counter game and is hard on the puck

I understand he hasn't played well, but if he turns it on, which it looks like he will, then this is a TOTALLY different team with Richards as a 2c.

If he does indeed turn it on . I'll be first one to jump on the bandwagon . I thought he sucked most of last year . Obviously he had some Broadway brad moments but overall was underwhelming . Now that Torts has either woken up to the idea that getting Richie going is not the prime directive of the team or is being mandated by Slats to play him down / less minutes will be the most telling tale .
I even liked him in a shooting role versus playmaking role on PP last night . Brad when he shoots can wire the puck . The minute he shoots more like last night will open up his original style which is playmaker .

He is playing tentatively, but he also needs wingers who can support him correctly. In TB he played and thrived with grinders. In Dallas, he played with a young Benn and Eriksson who were growing into themselves and could both skate well. Kreider? Callahan? Those would be his ideal wingers. Guys who can bang in the corners and retrieve pucks.

Imo what we're seeing is Richards trying to adjust with his age and a declining skill set. Inevitable. The question is how will he handle it moving forward. Hopefully last night is a sign of better play to come. Putting him with a young guy that can skate, shoot and fore check along with a guy that can win face offs and bang might just work.

Still disgusted with his play. He's old and weak. As long as he keeps slowing the play down to his speed and passing it off to a young buck, we should be good. Still not sold this is a turnaround.

He's had one good game so now he looks like he'll turn it on? You do realize that Philly is horrendous defensively.

I need more than a one game sample to think he has turned it around.

Guy has been slow as **** all year and can't shoot a puck past a defender on the PP to save his life.

i think it cleary says IF. if you read that?

So all you guys that want Richie as our 2C/3C, are you honestly comfortable with Stepan as the 1C? I love Step, but I feel he's too young and makes too many mistakes to be a top line center. Though our lines are very balanced (now) so it doesn't matter the order 1-3. Torts runs all 3 of them, including the 4th

I just think his production and his lines production dictates that they are our #1 line right now and he's the C of that line. Doesn't matter if we label him a 1C or not production is what it is

Too many mistakes? For every mistake he makes he breaks up/intercepts 3 passes. Also giving Richards a little time to rest and playing a line that is in form. Ya he's too young to be up there, but it's not like he hasn't earned it.

Brad Richards has played in 29 of the Rangers 31 games this season.

By month, Richards stat lines are:

Jan: 7 games, 2 goals, 4 assists, plus 6 rating, 21:16 per game
Feb: 12 games, 0 goals, 7 assists, minus 5 rating. 19:10 per game
March: 10 games: 2 goals, 1 assist, minus 2 rating. 19:04 per game.
His assist on Sunday was his first point in seven games.

In the NY Post, Richards told Larry Brooks that he has never had an experience like this before in his NHL career and that it is really taking a toll on him.

Brooks writes “The mind is connected to the legs, the legs are connected to the hands, and neither the legs nor the hands have been able to produce at anything resembling a satisfactory rate.”

Richards said that he understands that the responsibility falls on his shoulders, “when you’re an offensive guy, you have to produce” and he knows he can do more than he has been.

A scout told Craig Custance, at ESPN Insider, that Richards’ “legs have left him.”

Your kidding right. Other than like 3 good weeks last season this guy has been bad 90% of his Rangers life. I'm sorry that is to hard, below average at best 90% of his Rangers Life. This guy is going downhill fast, and to think all of a sudden this guy will turn it around, well then the eEaster bunny maybe is really coming to my house this weekend.

i rather keep playing miller then play brad.. its not acceptable.. they guy is one of the top paid player in the league and has only shown bits and pieces of his worth.. 12m and our 800k center, stepan, is out playing him by a landslide.. not acceptable.. i rather move on from him this summer.. but i think he gets a full 82.. noones good this summer, and we can afford to keep trading our young guys.. i say keep him then make a huge.. i mean huge push to see if malkin is available in 14'.. rather give a 26/26yr a 7yr deal worth 56m then pay this dude... obvious its a big if, since malkin might resign with pens but anything is possible..

Kreider-Malkin-Callahan
Hagelin-Stepan- Nash

I knew the Richards signing was going to be a bad one...he was decent last year and terrible this year...he is the new Drury.

This is another one of the terrible moves SAther has made...Redden, Drury, Gomez, Richards etc., etc., etc., Sather is the only guy who can cost his owners millions upon millions, upon millions and still keep his job....

He is a half ass gm and we have a half ass owner...it will be another 30 years before we win a cup...my poor son...what did i get him into.

Yeaahhh.....we're gonna need to go ahead and buy him out asap. He's only gonna get worse.

I really enjoy it when people just make stuff up trying to make a point.

Really? When has he been good? When has he been the player that everyone was drooling over when we signed him to that Cap friendly 9 year contract???? Are you just lowering your standards of him because he has been bad for so long?

I understand all the frustration with Richards, but I'm not wanting to give up on him. We won the conference last year and were proper contenders with the team we had. We're not even half a season (a usual season that is) into this campaign and as things stand we're in the play-offs. LA finished 8th last year. For me the biggest mistake Sather can make is to try to make mega deals. We don't need it. Richards isn't playing well, maybe he is done, or maybe he's just having a bad few months. Hopefully by the end of the season his form comes back to him a bit. Let's wait and see. We don't need to make huge changes every time the team/a player struggles
