good point lost on alot of people. poo has an edge to his game that i love. hes a little undisciplined at times but he brings it every game.

im not afraid to say that he was one of my favorite rangers last season. a good mix of hustle, sniping, forecheck and snarl. hes a very good skater as well.

i hope hes resigned.

Couldn't agree more. I *HATED* him when the season began, no point production, confused, OFFENSIVE ZONE PENALTIES :help:

But, towards the middle and latter half of the season, he definitely improved way above my expectations. He's a big forward, who will hit and is not afraid to mix it up. He can also score at times too.

My favorite players are the ones who play with an edge, Kreider, Poo.

Adios.

Anyone know where he lives? I'll gladly help him move out.

How anyone could be remotely impressed with his tenure here is beyond me. Goes to show how little of other teams you all watch if are satisfied with Brad.

The guy was a dynamite playmaker and PP point man in Tampa and Dallas. Signed with us, ate chocolate and drank wine all summer and that was that. We didn't see anything close to the player we anticipated when we signed him.

Today is the highlight of his career as a Ranger.

Great post.

loved Poo. He's epically Pejorative Slured, but I loved him on this team.

i want to be Pejorative Slured like him.

totally agree. Honestly I don't want Fast anywhere near this team.

good riddance to his contract, but kind of sad to see him go. he definitely had a major locker room impact. best of luck to him wherever he goes whenever it isn't against us. hope he lands himself on a competitor though.

Thanks for your contributions to the New York Rangers Hockey Club for the past three years, Brad. In other news...

More Money For RFA/UFA Signings!!! (paging Paul Stastny & Ryan O'Reilly)

i'll just say this. i would have bought out brad richards even if we didnt have cap recapture and even if we didnt have the cap crunch we're in right now.

Never got the love fest with Richards. Good guy? Fine, but there are lots of good guys out there. I don't wish bad on him, but this should have happened last year, and this year, he should have been pulled off the powerplay he has now ruined for 3 years. Disappointed in AV on that point. Other stars on this team weren't treated with the same kids gloves.

And it's no coincidence, or a matter of 'running out of gas', that in consecutive playoffs he had his role significantly reduced. Bit of vindication for Torts there.

Thanks for your first season here, thank you for your last regular season here, thank you for some really clutch goals, thank you for never manning the point on the NYR powerplay again, thank you for never dogging it on the backcheck again, thank you for never passing the puck to the other team again, thank you for never living up to your contract, and especially thank you for the numerous times you helped this team win (or more recently lose).

I hope he can bounce back and be a productive member of another team, but this guy blew most of his Rangers career. Clutch, sometimes. ******, most of the rest of the time

Richards was a contributor but he just wasn't worth the money. He WAS worth the money based off his play in Dallas, but he was never a bonafude, true elite center here.

Better than Drury. Much, much better than Drury, and his postseason play at times was clutch.

Oh well. Water is wet, sky is blue and a Rangers UFA acquisition didn't deliver.

The main reason to celebrate this is if we STOP DOING IT. This signing didn't feel as bad as Gomez and Drury from day one but it certainly didn't feel right given his age. IF Sather finally learns from this I'll be happy.

Sure Richards was a nice guy. Who cares? W's and L's only matter in pro sports (doesn't mean at any cost - I don't want criminals and despots). Eli's a nicer guy and has two SB MVP's and Rings. I want nice champions - not just nice guys. Funny how Jagr would have fit both categories all along.

He can be a 2nd line center for a bubble team, but if he is in that position on a team that can contend then that team is in bad shape. I watched this guy's every game for 3 years, he isn't as good as his numbers suggest and he has steadily declined. His footspeed is gone, his shot is not deadly, he is too slow to use his hockey senses and keep up with plays, he consistently passes the puck to the other team causing odd man rushes. He is too slow to be effective at the NHL level.

Sad too, guy used to be one of the best in the game, to watch him deteriorate to his current state is like watching an old pet transition from simply being old to needing to go to the vet to get put down

Thanks for 9 playoff rounds and 6 series wins in your time here...sad to see him go but the cap recapture threat was too real.

to be fair, the rules were changed on Sather.

At the time of the deal it made sense and I'm sure the plan was to Redden him if/when his cap hit became unmanageable.

Instead, they changed the rules to prevent that and buyouts were allowed. Either way, basically the same outcome.

Basically this.

At the time of the signing it wasn't the worst thing in the world... The new CBA made today a foregone conclusion.

Yep. Anybody calling the signing BAD is insane. Richards, while he underperformed, was important in helping the team to two of their most successful seasons in franchise history, and there would always be an out from the albatross.

If anything, this should make us all realize you can't sign guys who get most of their points on the PP.

Not going to be as harsh on Richards. The Rangers have accomplished good things with Richie on board. His leadership will be missed.

But, it was a move that had to be made.

The draft will be very interesting. The entire league under one roof, so the possibility for trades increases.

Whew.

I do NOT understand the after-the-fact adulation. This guy was a nightmare on the point, an anchor on the third line (make no mistake, it was the second unit in name only) and not once, but TWICE, was so bad in the playoffs that he forced the coach to demote him. Outside of his first season (which, BTW, was a down year based on his previous standard) and the first two months of this past year, he was a net NEGATIVE on this team. AND he took up 10% of our cap!

Even if cap recapture wasn't an issue, I'd be screaming for his buyout.
